Rob Kardashian posted a shirtless throwback photo on Instagram, ending months of Instagram silence following his 100-pound weight gain. In the throwback photo, Kardashian is shirtless at a beach in Malibu, California, as he eats a pork sandwich.
“#Me just chill-zoning in Malibu eating a pulled pork sandwich,” Rob wrote in the caption. It’s unclear when the photo was taken, but it appears to be a recent snapshot based on Kardashian’s appearance.
Rob, 28, has been battling severe depression in recent years and has gained 100 pounds as a result. Rob currently lives with his sister Khloe, who confirmed that Rob has been very unhappy and reclusive lately.
“He’s going through a hard time now,” Khloe told Complex. “Rob lives with me now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love having him with me. I have a big *ss house and I wanted it so he could feel comfortable.”
Kardashian, a former high school star athlete, has tried unsuccessfully to lose weight during the past three years, but has only gotten bigger. The 5-foot-11 Rob, who reportedly weighs about 300 pounds, has his sisters and mom, Kris Jenner, terrified he could become diabetic or die early due to obesity-related health problems.
On a recent episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Kris Jenner told a family therapist she’s worried sick about Rob. “If I don’t help him do something drastic, he’s going to die,’ Kris sobbed. “I’m just waiting for this horrible thing to happen and there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Kris continued: “He was someone who was very athletic and he has gained over 100 pounds. Rob was the star of track team in high school, he was the star of the basketball team. He took on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ [in 2011]. He couldn’t put two steps together but came in second place.”
Experts say dramatic weight gain or weight loss is a symptom of depression, as are helplessness and mood swings. Rob’s sisters, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, have repeatedly stated Rob suffers from all these symptoms.
Rob’s weight loss struggles have been a running storyline on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” for the past few seasons. On season 9, Kardashian was shocked when blood tests revealed he was at risk of developing diabetes and kidney failure, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported.
Rob had a rippling physique when he first starred on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” in 2007. He remained in great shape until 2013, when he went through a public breakup with singer Rita Ora. The once athletic Kardashian has since gotten progressively heavier and now rarely leaves his house.
