Rob Kardashian has gotten serious about his weight loss program by jump-starting an intense workout and diet regimen. Rob’s pal (and former girlfriend) Malika Haqq said Rob finally started “taking care of himself” following his recent 100-pound weight gain.
“Rob is doing very well,” Malika told E! Sept. 3. “He has been working out and taking care of himself.”
Rob was showered with compliments after posting an Instagram photo last week (at right) sporting a noticeably slimmed-down face. His millions of fans congratulated Kardashian on his apparent weight loss and encouraged him to stay healthy.
Ever since he gained 100 pounds last year, Rob has rarely posted photos (or anything) on Twitter or Instagram because he’s self-conscious about his weight. Malika said Kardashian will share photos and updates on social media when he’s ready.
“I think Rob shares what he wants to share. I think that’s how it should be for everyone,” said Haqq, who’s Khloe Kardashian’s best friend. “When you’re ready you post, post. When you’re ready to be seen, be seen. When you don’t, leave him alone.”
Rob has been working out with celebrity fitness trainer Gunnar Peterson, who recently helped his sister Khloe lose 35 pounds, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported. Rob’s workouts include cardio exercise and weightlifting.
Rob, a self-professed fast food addict, has also overhauled his diet. “For the first time in a long time Rob is committed to changing his diet habits,” said a source. “He’s been working with a chef and doing really well.”
Kris Jenner Is Afraid Rob Will Die Of Obesity
Rob currently lives with his sister Khloe, who confirmed the reclusive Rob has been battling depression. Kardashian, a former high school star athlete, has tried unsuccessfully to lose weight during the past three years, but has only gotten bigger.
The 5-foot-11 Rob, who reportedly weighs about 300 pounds, has his sisters and mom, Kris Jenner, terrified he could become diabetic or die early due to obesity-related health problems. On a recent episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Kris Jenner told a family therapist she’s worried sick about Rob.
“If I don’t help him do something drastic, he’s going to die,” Kris sobbed. “I’m just waiting for this horrible thing to happen and there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Kris continued: “He was someone who was very athletic and he has gained over 100 pounds. Rob was the star of track team in high school, he was the star of the basketball team. He took on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ [in 2011]. He couldn’t put two steps together but came in second place.”
Experts say dramatic weight gain or weight loss is a symptom of depression, as are helplessness and mood swings. Rob’s sisters, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, have repeatedly stated Rob suffers from all these symptoms.
Rob’s weight loss struggles have been a running story line on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” for the past few seasons. On season 9, Rob’s blood tests revealed he was at risk of developing diabetes and kidney failure.
