Large high pressure was over the Atlantic seaboard this morning, and begin the process of bringing some milder air to the region through the next several days. Temperatures will rebound quickly today with bright sunshine and a modest westerly to southwesterly breeze.
After a mostly sunny start, clouds will begin to increase on Memorial Day as a warm front approaches the region. Some showers may be scattered about during the late afternoon and evening hours. Conditions will become decidedly more humid and hot as we head into the shortened work week and a strong southwesterly flow brings daytime high temperatures into the 80’s region wide, with perhaps a few spots flirting with the 90 degree mark.
With the heat and humidity will come a chance for scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms each day. A stationary boundary will be located just north of the Canadian border, and weak disturbances will rotate along it, enhancing chances for those showers and storms, particularly further north of the Capital Region. Activity may be associated with heavy rainfall. This is due to abundant low level moisture forecast to be in place, and the fact that the upper level steering winds appear to be relatively weak during this time frame, which may allow storms that do form to be slow movers.
