The New England Revolution rolled on with their third consecutive victory, this time 2-1 over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium for a crowd of 18,296. New England are unbeaten in seven games and extended their home unbeaten streak to 13 games, a new club record.
The Revolution (5-2-2, 17 pts.) continue to lead MLS overall. The Red Bulls (3-1-4, 13 pts.) fell to third in the East and eighth across MLS. The Revs’ win snapped a six-game regular-season winless streak against the Red Bulls.
Charlie Davies put the Revolution ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute, assisted by newcomer London Woodberry. Davies has now scored in each of the Revs’ last three games and tallied 10 goals as a member of the Revolution.
Teal Bunbury doubled their lead 2-0 in the 60th minute with a combination play by Davies, Juan Agudelo, Scott Caldwell and Lee Nguyen. Nguyen now has 16 assists in his Revolution career as well as 28 goals. Three minutes later, New York’s Mike Grella headed the ball over New England defense for Sacha Kljestan, who beat goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth to spoil the shutout 2-1.
Revolution head coach Jay Heaps started Kelyn Rowe in place of Lee Nguyen, who began the game on the bench. Andy Dorman was shown a yellow card in the 36th minute and will be suspended for one-game for yellow card accumulation if he collects another.
On Friday, May 8, the Revolution visit expansion Orlando City SC at the Citrus Bowl in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. That game, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. ET, will be televised in Spanish on Univision Deportes, but viewers can also watch the game with English commentary by using the SAP function on their televisions. The game will also be carried locally on the radio in English on 98.5 The Sports Hub and in Portuguese on WMVX 1570 AM Nossa Radio USA.
