If you are looking for a unique family-oriented holiday attraction that also lets you commune with nature, check out the Christmas in Ash Cave event being presented by Hocking Hills State Park on Saturday, December 12. It’s a bit of a drive from Cleveland (3 hours) but definitely worth it for a notable holiday experience.
Being offered from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., your evening will begin with an unguided lantern walk along the paved trail to Ash Cave. Once you arrive at the cave, the children can visit Santa and tell him their fondest wishes. Guests will be able to sit around a cozy campfire, enjoy some refreshments (hot chocolate and cookies) and listen to a performance by carolers. Feel free to join in the singing.
As candlelight flickers off the roof of Ash Cave, guests will also be able to help decorate the Christmas tree for wildlife. Those with an adventurous spirit can take a walk deeper into the gorge to see the cascading waterfall. All park visitors must remain on the paved paths. The paved trail to the edge of the cave is stroller accessible and wheelchair accessible. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
Again, hours for the Christmas in Ash Cave event are 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 12. Admission is free. Parking is free. For more information about this event, call 740-385-6841 or get online at www.hockinghills.org or www.explorehockinghills.com.
