A desperate search is underway for a rescued dog who vanished after slipping away from her new family. Molly was initially discovered wandering the streets in Las Cruces, New Mexico. with her canine best friend, “Buddy.” The pair were found, and picked up, by a good Samaritan, who opted to keep them temporarily after learning that the animal control agency in the area has a high kill rate.
Carla Baker, the director of Cherished K-9 All Breed Rescue, emailed the National Dog News Examiner with a bit of information about what transpired next, “she reached out to Cherished K-9 All Breed Rescue for help. Both dogs were microchipped but their owner did not want them back. Elizabeth went and adopted them the shelter (to save their lives). Elizabeth and her family held on to them as we searched for a new home for them –TOGETHER.”
Eventually, the rescue agency was able to secure a wonderful new family that was able to take the pair into their Stockton, New Jersey, home. With the help of a transport agency, and dozens of volunteers, the dogs made a cross-country trek to their new family.
Molly and Buddy quickly bonded with their new family’s existing dog – the threesome enjoyed playtime, sleeping together and sharing meals. The world turned upside down on Friday, August 14, when Molly was outside on a leash with a family member. Buddy, who had been inside, saw something outside that made him bolt through a closed screen door – when he ran, Molly broke away from the person who had been holding her leash and followed suit.
An intense search of the area turned up Buddy at a farm on Byran Kingwood Road – but to date, Molly remains unaccounted for. Baker wrote, “The family has contacted animal control, the state police, fire departments, animal shelter, area farmers, and people passing by. Drones were flown one day, but came up with nothing.“
The only tip that could provide a clue is the family’s receipt of information that someone in a white, 4-door car in Hunterdon County, NJ, may have picked up a dog matching Molly’s description.
Please take a moment to share Molly’s photos and help her find her way back to her worried family. Molly is microchiped and she was wearing identification tags at the time that she disappeared. If you have seen Molly, please call Cherished K-9 All Breed Rescue at 575-496-6085.
