This episode of “Ray Donovan” was an absolute explosion.
“Swing Vote” started off as a feel-good reunion between Ray and Abbey. The same could be said for Bunchy and Teresa. However knowing the Donovan’s luck can certainly run out in a matter of minutes, which is exactly what happened to Ray after his football deal came to a crashing halt. Father Romero gets the truth from Bunchy about how he and Ray killed the priest who molested them both. Terry is certainly not coping well with life outside of prison. After a man with a bald head left the gym, Terry saw a dumbbell weight on his desk that was similar to the one he used to kill the member of the Aryan brotherhood with. Terry thinks that the Aryan’s have people on the outside that are after him. This causes Terry to become more paranoid. As a result, he buys a gun.
This episode certainly had parts that we were not used to. Mickey gets a lesson from Mrs. Minassian and her Grandson who beats up one of their partners. This would apply to Mickey if he did the same thing.
Usually, it’s Mickey that does the intimidating and threats, not the other way around. He could have his hands full with the situation he has put himself into. Ray seemed to be in a good mood for the most part. He thought his deal to buy the football team would go through and that he would become a part, owner. He even smiled at one point. However, all good things must come to an end and unfortunately for Ray it has. When it was revealed that Governor Verona has lost the election to continue his stint as Governor, that is when all came crashing down.
What made matters worse is that Andrew Finney found out about the deal that Ray and Paige made in which he would own three percent of the football team. Finney was absolutely furious and embarrassed Ray in front of Abbey. Finney repeatedly shouted to Ray that he has bought three percent of nothing. As a result, Ray decided to tell Finney the truth that he gave Paige the cell phone. Finney continued to shout at Ray as if he were angry dad yelling at his son.
This episode shows what a tough spot Ray because of the person Andrew Finney is and how dangerous he could be. Before the episode ends Abbey looks at Ray in the elevator in shock on what type of person her husband is now involved with. It would be interesting to see how Ray handles the situation he is in with Finney, and if he will still continue to be put down in a disrespectful manner.
You could say that if Finney’s behavior towards Ray continues, The Finney’s and The Donovan’s will be at war, and will certainly make for some great television.
