Artists are constantly seeking venues in which to show and promote their work. For fledging and emerging artists this phrase is especially important but it can be extremely difficult to find locations and/or galleries that are willing to exhibit new work. It can prove to be extra difficult to showcase work in cities like New York which are already teeming with established artists. Luckily, organizations exist that foster new artists; RAW Artists is one such establishment.
RAW Artists is an organization that helps artists showcase their talents and meet other artists who share their interests and styles. Currently rooted all across the United States and in several other countries, too, RAW Artists has grown tremendously since its establishment in 2009. The organization is constantly seeking new talent and anyone can create a profile and submit artwork to be considered for future events.
Recently, this Examiner had the opportunity to interview Meghan Jones, Assistant Director of U.S. & Canadian Events, about the company’s present offerings and its hopes for the future:
Meagan Meehan (M.M.): What is RAW Artists?
Meghan Jones (M.J.): RAW Artists is an international indie, arts organization. We plan, promote, and produce artistic showcases all around the globe. Our mission is to harness artists with the tools and resources they need to be able to independently promote themselves.
M.M.: How and when did Raw Artists start?
M.J.: RAW started in 2009. During Fall of 2010, we launched nationally to over 50 cities across the U.S., and since then, have launched in Australia, the UK, and Canada.
M.M.: What kind of art do you showcase?
M.J.: We showcase artists of all kinds. We mainly work with visual artists, photographers, filmmakers, performance artists, musicians, fashion designers, hair stylists, make-up artists, and accessories designers.
M.M.: Aside from having a great website, do you also host some public events? If so, what are those like?
M.J.: We host events every month in different cities across the globe. Even event boasts a visual pop up art gallery consisting of multi-genre visual artists and photographers, a short film screening, some type of performance art (for example, an aerial act, dance troop or spoken word artist), live music (typically you’ll see 2-3 live music performances), and fashion runway shows. It’s quite the circus of creativity!
M.M.: What are your hopes for the future of RAW Artists?
M.J.: We hope to continue to spread our mission further across the globe and continue to be a platform for independent artists all over the world.
