The Republicans are at it again tonight in Boulder, Colorado. While the many issues facing the United States will be discussed (read: bickered about), not everyone is pleased with the GOP’s facility arrangements. Sen. Rand Paul, the sometimes-libertarian-leaning republican candidate from Kentucky, arrived at the University of Colorado’s Coors Event Center on Tuesday afternoon only to find his green room arrangements were underwhelming and unmistakingly meager. But not all the candidates were treated equally, it seems. Donald Trump, one of the noteworthy front runners in the GOP primaries, got the five star treatment when it came to his green room arrangements.
Fair? Not really. Surprising? Hardly.
The Daily Camera reported that Sen. Paul’s political adviser, Chris LaCivita, was less than impressed with the Republican National Committee’s preparations ahead of Wednesday night’s debates. So what does one do when such an injustice has been committed? You take to the internet and complain. In this case, LaCivita took to Twitter. He showed a picture of Paul’s green room, complete with bathroom, but little else. He also snapped a photo of Donald Trump’s preparation area, which came with a big screen TV, a couch and a quite spacious area for Trump-centric activities. Trump’s pre-debate routine is a mystery, but many speculate it involves some sort of ritualistic animal sacrifice. Or maybe he just burns cash, just to make a point of how wealthy he is. He is a self-made man after all. Or is he? After his speech in New Hampshire about his father’s small million dollar loan, it’s hard to tell anymore.
By 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, LaCivita and Sen. Paul got the justice they were looking for by whining on Twitter. They were given the appropriate arrangements to conduct their debate preparation, a debate that Sen. Paul barely even qualified for. He’s been polling between 3 and 4 percent since he announced his candidacy. It has been an underwhelming and stagnant few months for the Kentucky Senator as he has tried to prove why he’s even bothering to run in the first place.
“Thanks to everyone at @GOP for bending over backwards to acquire great working conditions for team Paul,” LaCivita wrote on Twitter. If anything, this incident just proves that if you complain long enough, you’ll get what you want. Teenagers should be taking notes.
Let’s face it, it’s not like this happened by accident. Trump knows how to whine and complain his way into getting what he wants. Sure, his poll numbers helped, but he’s an entertainer, and after all, the GOP primaries have been nothing but Donald Trump running his mouth, much to the other candidates chagrin. But he’s a spectacle, he’s given people a reason to tune into a debate for no other reason than to see what outlandish thing Trump will do or say this time. He has threatened to pull out of debates for not getting what he wants and you can be sure that his luxurious green room tonight is a direct reflection of that attitude. You want entertainment? You have to cater to the Trump campaign. If not, say goodbye to your viewers and your highest polling candidate.
