It is that time of the year when kids ages 4 and up head to school with their little backpacks and lunch bags or boxes ready to face a new school year. But are they? As a parent you are probably not even thinking about how ready your child is for this next big challenge in their lives. Did you teach them enough? spend enough time on the ABC’s or are they going to be able to remember how to count from 1-? Are you tired of searching the internet and sorting through all of the information you may be getting from countless others about raising your child and getting them prepared for school?
Well, Bright by Three has the perfect answer to those questions and probably some you may have concerning your child’s care and school preparation in the future. Bright by Three, formerly Colorado Bright Beginnings, is a non-profit organization based in Colorado.who help parents of children from 0-3 get their child prepared using SMS text messages with their Bright by Text program and it is even bi-lingual.
Now-a-days in order for a child to be ready for those first steps in school the caregiver need to have prepared them for this next journey in life. From the time a child is born till about 3 years old their small little brains are being slowly soaking in a lot of information and processing it for those first days and years of school. Whether it be by sitting with them and playing games, reading, pointing things out in picture books, watching DVD’s, playing on a tablet, or IPhone, nestled in their favorite chair, pillow or even a Boppy, their brains are capturing those sounds and pictures. As they grow day to day they are connecting all that information and forming their first words, identifying specific shapes or animals and learning the all too important alphabet and numbers.
If you are preparing to care for a child before they are born up to about three years of age you may be wondering which way is best to prepare them for the ever-changing educational environment? You are the first influence the child will have and may need some help building the foundation for what will be a lifetime of learning. What tools you use and how you use them may make a world of difference when they are sent off by themselves to school. With some of the new ways kids are being taught today it is hard to keep up on new information and you may even be thinking whether you have the proper skill set to get your child prepared, even if you already have other children.
Being a parent and caring for a child is a lot of work let alone adding the educational preparation required by educational institutions in today’s world. Even if you think you are completely prepared it never hurts to have information from other well educated individuals like Bright by Three has working on their programs. Some of the topic you will receive information on are; Nutrition and eating, sleep, health safety, developmental games and milestones and behavior and positive discipline
Jean McSpadden, the CEO of Bright by Three, had the following comments about babies learning and their program; “85% of a baby’s intellect, personality and social skills are developed in the first three years of life and are ready to learn from day one, so our aim with Bright by Text is to offer timely and targeted parenting tips that are easy for busy caregivers to absorb and put into practice.”
Bright by Text uses SMS Text in which parents can receive weekly age specific tips for children 0 – 3 years old.
These tips they send the parent(s) are put together from research information they have been collecting from parents by Bright by Three since 1995. Pediatricians and Child Development Experts were given the information and the program was created. The information sent to parent(s) has learning games; health, safety and development information; language and early literacy tips; as well as positive guidance and discipline information. When the texts are received it is up to the parent(s) to read the information, process it and then use it with their children.
Bright by Text asks for basic information, i.e., zip code and date of birth when you sign up so they can properly target messages specifically for each caregiver and child; Messages are sent about twice a week.
McSpadden also made the following comments; “Because babies don’t come with operating instructions, all parents need a little guidance on how to make the most of this critical period and prepare their children for future learning.” “Bright by Text offers essential parenting information delivered in bite-sized chunks right when parents need it most.”
