If you love tea (hot or cold) and you are looking for an unique day trip for you and your friends or for you and a special child in you life, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Quintealia’s Tea Parlor in Burton, Ohio.
Located in a 1891 Victorian mansion built by Burton’s first mayor, George H. Ford, Quintealia’s Tea Parlor offers a charming and elegant experience for visitors who will feel like they have been whisked back in time to the early 1900’s. The house features 5 fireplaces, original inlaid wood flooring and original woodwork, leaded glass and crystal chandeliers. The Parlor is owned by Annette Phillips and Renee Petro who have been friends since they met in 1989 while working for the Cleveland Ballet. Quintealia’s is named for Annette’s grandmother, Quintilia and with a slight variation in the spelling to include the word “tea,” the Tea Parlor serves as a tribute to her grandmother. A photo of Quintilia sits on the fireplace mantle in the Main Parlor.
Quintealia’s is comprised of three parlors — the French Room decorated in lace and pastel pinks (check out the gold cutlery), the Ford Room with its quarter-paneled wood walls, oversized wingback chairs and Old English accent pieces and the Main Parlor is decorated in dark woodwork and rich jewel tones and includes an 1880’s Queen Anne velvet settee and matching ladies chair.
Options for your dining pleasure are many. A featured attraction at Quintealia’s is the Full Afternoon Tea which includes a three-tiered assortment of tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones with Devonshire cream and jam, petite sweets and a pot of tea that never ends with your choice of tea. Cost of the Full Afternoon Tea is $22.95 per person. By the way, Quintelia’s offers more than 40 varieties of tea including selections of black teas, white teas, green teas, Rooibus (red tea), Oolong, Pu-erh, Chai, Yerba Mate, caffeine free teas and even wine-inspired teas in addition to Artisan iced teas (in season).
For those guests who do not wish to order the Full Afternoon Tea, Quintealia’s also offers a variety of soups, salads, quiche, hearty meat pies, puff pastry dishes and a variety of desserts (including homemade bread pudding, pies and cheesecake), all served on antique china.
