After a drama-laden episode of “Dancing With the Stars” on Monday night where Tamar Braxton left her hospital bed to dance, the singer’s career on the show has ended. According to CNN on November 11, Tamar did not, in fact, have pneumonia but had several pulmonary embolisms, bloood clots in her lungs.
After her courageous performance in the Duet Dance, the last dance of the night on Monday’s show, Tamar went back to the hospital. The co-host of “The Real” told her fans that doctors did not want her to leave in the first place. This time, she found out that her diagnosis was pulmonary embolisms, several of them, and not the previously-announced pneumonia.
On Tuesday morning, Tamar Braxton posted the picture at the top of this article on her Instagram with the following caption:
“With a Heavy heart I regret to inform you that my season of #dwts has to come to an end along with the rest of my tour dates with @musicbykem. After yesterday’s final #dwts performance I went back to the hospital (after the doctors didn’t want me to leave in the first place) only to find out that I don’t have pneumonia but something way more serious and that is having several P.E.’s (blood clots in both sides of my lungs) As you all know I will be the first to always encourage anyone to push through any obstacle that comes along one’s way. But in this case, my health is my current obstacle. .. And in TRUE #tamartian form I must go about this the exact same way as I would anything else. I woke up to a mirror and saw myself this morning and that makes me the winner because that almost wasn’t the case. Take care of yourselves… I love you and thank you ALL for your support. p.s. Big hugs and kisses to my boo @iamvalc for being beyond a friend, brother and the BEST partner EVER.”
Tamar is the second contestant forced to withdraw in Season 21 over health concerns. Very early in the show, reality star Kim Zolciak-Biermann went home to Atlanta between shows and collapsed. She was rushed to the hospital with heart problems. She was forced to withdraw by the rules on “Dancing With the Stars” which state that if a contestant can’t dance due to illness, they have to withdraw. Later it was found that Zolciak-Biermann had a more serious heart problem and she has since undergone corrective surgery.
And what about Tamar’s pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy? Val had made a point of telling Tamar in their video package that she was the best because she was his partner and all his partners were the best. Later in the show, host Tom Bergeron remarked on how protective Val is over his partners. You could see he was obviously upset when asked to comment on Tamar’s condition. After the show, Val put it into words.
“I don’t really care about things that aren’t important at the moment, and at the moment for me, the priority was Tamar’s health and the situation,” he told E! News. “I’m not trying to hear critique on a dance that was done with her half-conscious and caused her to be in the emergency room at the moment. For me, that’s not what is important. I’m just happy that she was all right and she was able to come back and finish out the show. She’s a trouper.”
The “half-conscious” dance Val is referring to was their individual dance, which was judged on the rehearsal footage, again in compliance with the rules on “Dancing With the Stars.” The dance showed an obviously-exhausted and ill Tamar soldiering her way through it like the true champion she is.
Tamar Braxton has a wonderful family in her husband and young son. Despite how disappointing this must be for her and her legions of fans, she has to take care of herself first. I’m sure I can speak for all of the “Dancing With the Stars” fans in wishing her a successful and speedy recovery.
