Forecast discussion: Well, the skies opened up by the middle of the morning, as T.F. Green Airport officially received just under an inch of rain. There may be some showers scattered across the state this evening, with a possible thunderstorm until 10 p.m. However, the weather will improve as we move past the midpoint of the week.
A low pressure system centered over northern New York will keep its cold front stalled just west of Southern New England this evening. The front will begin to push through Rhode Island by tomorrow afternoon, as winds shift to the northwest by Wednesday night. The cold front may help trigger more showers for Wednesday afternoon. Eventually, high pressure ridging will begin to build over Rhode Island Wednesday night, allowing us to see some starlit skies before dawn.
As we head towards the weekend, the upper levels of the atmosphere will change. We will see an upper level trough move just east of us, allowing for some warmer air to return. We will see this during the weekend, as temperatures slowly climb back into the middle to upper 80’s. A new cold front or weak trough will bring some scattered showers for Friday evening. That frontal boundary may linger into Saturday, keeping us with wet weather and warm temperatures.
By Sunday, the disturbance will dissipate, and high pressure will bring mostly sunny skies for the rest of Sunday and Monday. Temperatures may reach the upper 80’s next Tuesday, with the risk for some passing showers by the middle of the afternoon.
