Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure ridge continues to give Providence beautiful summer weather. On Saturday, the beach was the place to be, as we reached 90 degrees in the capital city. This is the second day in the row we reached 90. We will have a heat wave on Monday if the mercury reaches 90 or above one more time. Right now, many computer models have us in the lower 90’s. Add the humidity, and heat indexes will be in the middle 90’s.
The heat and humidity continue on Tuesday, as a weak cold front pushes into New England, especially by the early afternoon. We will have the chance to see scattered showers and thunderstorms by the early afternoon, and continue into the late evening. A new high pressure system behind the front will bring partial sunshine for Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a slight risk for more precipitation Wednesday afternoon.
A stronger cold front will pass through Southern New England on Friday morning. We will see showers and thunderstorms move through the area into Saturday morning. We should see some partial sunshine by Saturday afternoon. A new cold front will bring the risk for some scattered showers next Sunday.
Once we get past midweek, the upper level pattern will change. The upper level ridge that is giving us all this heat and humidity will break down, as the jet stream becomes more zonal (west to east) again. This will allow temperatures to slowly fall as we approach the weekend. Temperatures will slowly fall into the lower 80’s for daytime highs by Friday.
