Curtis Percell Spurlock has been a faithful disciple of New Canaan Worship Center since 1999. He is an ordained deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, trustee, works with audio/media ministry and safety ministry. He is always willing to serve whenever and wherever he is needed.
Percell is a 66-year-old native of King William County and the youngest of ten children. He worked at the Federal Reserve Bank before being drafted into the Army and serving in the Vietnam War in 1969. After returning home in 1971, he moved to Richmond, Virginia and attended Virginia Commonwealth University and majored in business administration. He attended The Way of Life Spiritual Development Center in Partnership With Oral Roberts University. One of his favorite scriptures is 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
Percell was employed by the City of Richmond as a firefighter for 31 years. He is currently employed by Hanover County Transportation Department as a bus driver for Georgetown Alternative School.
Percell has been married to Corliss Paige since Nov. 1, 1986. They have one son, Antwan Paige, one daughter-in-law, Kimberly Paige, two daughters, LaVerne Gary and Chantell Peatross, one son-in-law, Kevin Peatross, seven wonderful grandchildren, and five precious great-grandchildren.
Corliss Paige Spurlock is a 60-year-old native of Hanover County. She has been a faithful disciple of New Canaan since 1980. She is one of nine children. Corliss loves family, and she is surrounded by many family members at the church. Her son, Antwan Paige, is a disciple of the church. Her brother, James Paige, Jr. serves as minister of music. One of the pastors, Rev. Lois Blakey-Paige is her sister-in-law. Corliss and James’ late father, James Paige, Sr., was also one of the musicians when New Canaan was first established. Their mother, Evangelist Doris Paige faithfully supported New Canaan ministries when she was alive. Corliss’ nephews, Reginald Paige, Ricky Green, and Christopher Douglas also serve with the music ministry. Her adoptive sisters, Mary Jackson, Rev. Margaret Minnicks, and Rev. Blanche Murphy are also longtime disciples of New Canaan.
Corliss serves as an ordained deacon, choir member, wedding coordinator and Sunday school teacher for new disciples and teenagers. She has received an Advanced Certificate of Theology Program from The Way of Life Spiritual Development Center in Partnership With Oral Roberts University, an MBA degree from Strayer University, and a BS degree from St. Paul’s College. She is also a member of The Catena L. Parker Foundation for Missing Children.
Corlis was formerly employed by Interbake Foods for 30 years as a payroll and accounts payable accountant. She is currently employed by Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a procurement compliance officer. She has the gifts of hospitality and giving and a passion of caring and sharing. In her spare time, she loves to read and watch “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.” Her most favorite place for vacation is the “beach.” She says, “The ocean relaxes me and gives me a great opportunity to praise God for His magnificent wonders.” Her favorite scripture is Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
