Dannette Cox is a faithful member of New Canaan Worship Center in Richmond, Virginia where the pastors are Rev. Louis R. Blakey, Jr. and Rev. Lois Blakey-Paige. The pastor-emeritus is Rev. Louis R. Blakey, Sr. who founded the church 41 years ago. Dannette, 28, has been a member of New Canaan since 1994.
Dannette wears many hats in the church. She recently became the pastors’ administrator. She prepares the church bulletins for Sunday’s services. She is an assistant in the children and youth ministry working along with the children and youth directors who oversee approximately 35-40 children ranging in ages from infant to 18 years old. The children say Dannette makes them feel loved and safe. Dannette alternate with another teacher to teach teens on Sunday morning and Wednesday night.
The Richmond native sings in the Fellowship Choir and the Combined Choir. She, along with six others, started the praise dance group. Now, it is called the Praise Priests because it is a viable ministry of the church. Even though Dannette is extremely busy she says, “I love what I do.”
Dannette is the youngest of four children. She and her mother share the same birthday. They both celebrate their birthday on Jan. 30. Dannette’s precious daughter, Jaidan, will turn 11 years old on Nov. 27. The fifth grader is very smart. You can tell that because math is her favorite subject. Jaidan dances with the Praise Priests.
The pastors’ administrator works full time at Capital One as a Specialist Operations Coordinator. Her educational background includes attending Virginia Commonwealth University from 2005-2008. Her major was biology with a concentration on pre-med. She plans to return to VCU in January to major in business management with a concentration on small business management and entrepreneurship.
Dannette says she has a lot of favorite scriptures, but if she had to narrow it down to the one she really likes and lives by is Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
