Carolyn Reese Brackett is co-director of the diaconate ministry at New Canaan Worship Center in Richmond, Virginia along with Catherine Jones where the pastors are Rev. Louis R. Blakey, Jr. and Rev. Lois Blakey-Paige. Carolyn has been in that position for almost a year, and she is doing a fantastic job serving for the glory of God as she oversees the assignments of 13 other people in the diaconate ministry.
The daughter of the late George Reese, Sr. and Elizabeth Reese came to New Canaan in 2007 from Friendship Baptist Church where she was a deacon. So being a part of the diaconate ministry at New Canaan is not new to her. She brought along a lot of Christian experience since she grew up in a large Christian family being the sixth of 10 children. Carolyn is the proud parent of one adult daughter, Rozetta Alexis Brackett, 36.
The 66-year-old serves with passion, and she does everything with excellence. She conducts monthly meetings and makes assignments for the other deacons and deaconesses. She makes assignments for visitations of the sick. Every fourth Sunday Carolyn makes sure assignments are made for the set up of the communion table and the serving of Holy Communion. Carolyn regularly attends church, Sunday School and Wednesday night Bible Study. She also takes advantage of any specialized classes that that are taught so she can continue to grow spiritually.
The Sussex County native is well-rounded in that she worked 21 years as a lead taxpayer representative for the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Virginia and retired in 2012. Since retiring, she still uses her accounting skills and tax knowledge in her own business, Brackett Tax Service, to prepare individual taxes as well as bookkeeping services for a church on a monthly basis.
Carolyn spent six years in the United States Army as a personnel technician. She entered two grades higher than most recruits in 1979 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1985.
New Canaan is delighted to have Carolyn as a disciple of Christ where she is using her spiritual gifts of giving, helps, and showing mercy. She has earned the respect of her co-laborers in Christ, and people speak very highly of her because of her passion to serve in the Kingdom of God.
