In the aftermath of Bobbi Kristina’s death, interest in Whitney Houston film projects is at an all-time high. Producers are eager to cash in on the Whitney Houston – Bobbi Kristina story and those who already had Whitney Houston projects in the works have stepped up their efforts to get their projects underway, according to Yahoo News on Aug. 15. There is stiff competition to capitalize on the public’s heightened interest in Whitney and her daughter, generated by the Bobbi Kristina tragedy which dominated the news for the past six months.
In their desperation to get their Whitney Houston – Bobbi Kristina projects off the ground, movie execs producers have gone to the extreme of sending scripts and film treatments to Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend Nick Gordon, according to CelebDirtyLaundry.com on Aug. 17. Now that Bobbi Kristina has passed, Nick probably has more details and inside information on the iconic singer and her daughter than anyone else. As Whitney’s unofficial “adopted son,” Nick lived and traveled extensively with Whitney in the years leading up to her death. As Bobbi Kristina’s brother, boyfriend, and alleged husband, Nick also has intimate knowledge of Bobbi Kristina and the events surrounding her life because they were literally inseparable up until her hospitalization. So it’s understandable why producers would seek Nick Gordon out.
However, International Business Times reported on Aug. 15 that this does not sit well with Bobbi Kristina’s family because they feel Nick Gordon is responsible for her death. The Houstons understand the need for accuracy in the telling of the Whitney Houston – Bobbi Kristina but they have issues — not just with Nick’s involvement, but with the speed with which producers are trying to bring their projects to fruition.
In addition, from an individual standpoint, Pat Houston is probably upset because as president of the Whitney Houston Estate, she likes to be at the forefront of anything related to Whitney and her daughter – especially if there’s money involved or a profit to be made. All of the Houstons vehemently objected when Lifetime TV announced their Whitney biopic which was directed by Angela Bassett. They claimed to be pursuing their own Whitney Houston project on a much grander scale, probably with Pat Houston at the helm.
Pat Houston, who has co-produced reality TV projects in the past, no doubt wants to be personally involved in any Whitney Houston – Bobbi Kristina projects, but there have been no reports of any scripts were being sent to her. However, according to RadarOnline, numerous scripts based on Whitney’s life had been sent to Bobbi Kristina prior to her tragic hospitalization. But none met her approval and she reportedly rejected them all.
It will be interesting to see how quickly the first Whitney Houston – Bobbi Kristina movie will be made, and who the producer will be.
