For the second straight year, the Washington Redskins meet up to play the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3 of the Preseason. Unfortunately, many of the players for both teams have key injuries in this match-up even before the start of the 2015 NFL season.
Following the Redskins’s 21-17 win over the Detroit Lions, Robert Griffin III was hit continuously behind a suspect offensive line. As a result Griffin left the game with a concussion. According the team’s official website, the three-year NFL Quarterback will not start and will be replaced by Kirk Cousins to start against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Washington Redskins enter their third preseason game with players nursing injuries. According to ESPN, Jordan Reed and DeAngelo Hall are possible to play this week against Baltimore. Frank Kearse and Akeem Davis will be benched with injuries along with Bashaud Breeland and DeSean Jackson on the sideline. The Ravens wish to bounce back from their 40-17 debacle from last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. According to the official website, the Ravens will play the first-team unit into the third quarter against the Washington Redskins. Quarterback Joe Flacco and the first-team offense will run roughly 41 snaps. Last year’s third preseason game ran the same amount of snaps for the Baltimore Ravens.“We’ll try to go out there and get some work done and get ready for the regular season,” said John Harbaugh via BaltimoreRavens.com
The biggest mystery is with the offensive line. It is one of the most depleted parts of this team as they enter this third preseason with a shorthanded offensive line due to nine linemen injured by the end of last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.Left Tackle Eugene Monroe practiced with a wrist injury and Kelechi Osemele missed practice all week after last week’s game.Wide Receiver Breshad Perriman(knee) is out for his third-straight preseason game. The last time he was on the practice field was July 30th and it is unknown when he will return. Coach Harbaugh said that Perriman’s injury is a “day to day thing.” Second-year receiver Michael Campanaro(Soft-tissue) will likely unable to play after missing an entire week of practice. Campanaro was absent in week 2 as well with an injury during practice with the Eagles.
Lardarius Webb is out with a hamstring injury. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees expressed concern for the Cornerback after an injury on August 11th. He has been absent from the two previous preseason games. Rashann Melvin missed practice with a “soft-tissue issue,” He returned to he field this past Thursday. Kyle Arrington will start with Jimmy Smith if Webb and Melvin are on the sideline.Week 3 of the NFL preseason is generally a dress rehearsal of the regular season for teams playing in these games. It will give fans insight into what the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins will show in these coming months of football. For some, there are still questions regarding the Redskins’ Quarterback situation with Robert Griffin III. For the Ravens, the secondary and the first-team defense is in need to look more consistent. Especially in regards to the second and third string players.
