It’s getting hard to wrap your head around Thanksgiving with all the turmoil and evil in the world that only seems to get worse. Most Americans have much to be grateful for while others suffer from hunger and homelessness. Still we live, for the moment, in a relatively peaceful nation disrupted, however, all too often these days by shootings, gangs and other crime. But so far, since September 11, 2001, nothing quite as bad as the massacre in Paris on Nov. 13, 2015 or the threatening situation that is happening today in Brussels—which is locked down with a top (four) security alert that has smothered commerce, tourism, transportation and cause fear and loathing in those who live there or are visiting.
Eturbonews posted a piece today, Nov. 22, that really drives home the ominous atmosphere now plaguing the planet writing that, “The world is on edge. There are airline emergency landings, suspicious packages, bomb threats, stabbings and major world cities like Brussels and Paris shut down.,” and citing some serious situations recorded in the last 8 hours:
In the United States–Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis issues alert for ‘dangerous situation’ near Eskenazi Hospital. IUPUI says shots were reported being fired near Rotary building, suspect heading north in blue pickup; students should take shelter. The FBI in Kansas City say three people were detained, questioned for suspicious behavior on a South West Airlines flight to Los Angeles. The plane made an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri.
In Jordan–King Abdullah of Jordan will discuss on Tuesday fight against Islamic State Militants in Syria and political process in Syria with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Around the UK–Britain to boost counter-terror spending by 30% in wake of Paris attacks, finance minister George Osborne say. There was also a security alert in Twinbrook, Northern Ireland, as police examine suspicious items found during a search.
In Israel—An Israeli woman stabbed in West Bank dies of wounds and security forces stop stabbing attack on an Israeli near Ariel in the West Bank; attacker shot
USA/Canada/Turkey--a Turkish Airlines aircraft TK2 from New York to Istanbul made an emergency landing in Halifax, Canada due to a bomb scare. The flight is now scheduled to continue on to Istanbul on Sunday morning. An investigation into threat is ongoing.
Come next Thursday will we be able to put all this evil aside and enjoy a turkey dinner with all the trimmings with friends and relatives? It won’t be easy for some, especially those who have lost love ones in any of the recent shootings, massacres, and crime sprees infecting the world. But we can still be the proud nation we are known for and raise our head high and be thankful to be alive. Just remember where ever you go to remain super vigilant, report anything suspicious to the authorities and try to enjoy yourself. Security has been tightened throughout the United States especially at airports so if you are flying expect delays.
Now sit back and watch the Macy’s turkey day parade video Happy Thanksgiving.
