Rochester’s Veteran’s Outreach Center has been serving Veterans for 40 years, and they would like you to walk or run through Mendon Ponds Park to raise money for the place that is a veteran’s best friend in Rochester. It is almost that time of year again; the Pound the Ground fundraiser for the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester.
Runners, walkers, veterans, and friends of veterans; mark your calendars – Saturday, September 12, 2015. It is just under one month away from race day, September 12, 2015. So now is the perfect time to set your personal training goals and register for Pound the Ground 2015.
For the 7th consecutive year, Pound the Ground challenges you to walk or run through the beautiful terrain of Mendon Ponds Park. Every step you take supports the men, women, and families served by the Veterans Outreach Center of Rochester. Choose from one of the three USA Track and Field (USATF) certified courses for the 10K and 5K run or a 5K walk along the course through the park grounds.
Mendon Ponds Park has 2,500 acres of woodlands, ponds, wetlands and glacially created landforms. The park was added to the National Registry of Natural Landmarks in 1969, because of its geologic history and the presence of significant kames, eskers, and kettles.
Where – Mendon Ponds Park – Stewart Lodge. When – Saturday, September 12. Registration opens at 8 a.m. The 10K race starts at 9 a.m. The 5K walk/run starts at 9:15 a.m.
Pound the Ground has a new feature this year: online fundraising. It’s a fast and efficient way to raise funds to support veterans and military families. Register online at https://www.crowdrise.com/PoundTheGround2015.
Battle of the Branches! As we honor and represent all who have served our nation, we offer this fundraising contest. It’s easy to choose the branch you wish to represent – Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard. No matter which team you choose, everyone who participates is working for the Veteran’s Outreach Center. So regardless of who wins, Rochester area veterans come out victorious. But, it will still be fun to earn bragging rights
The entry fee for the 10K race is $35.00. The entry fee for the 5K race and the 5K walk is $25.00. And … fundraisers will be rewarded!
