This Sunday, Michigan’s hard-driving rock act, Pop Evil will finally return to the Treasure Valley to give the Boise faithful a long overdue, full headline performance. The July 26 event will take place at The Knitting Factory and will also feature Red Sun Rising, First Decree and Gypsy Saints. Tickets for the show are only $15.
Pop Evil found themselves on the verge in 2010 when they were dropped by their record label while sitting on a new record, War of Angels. Fortuitously, E1 Music snapped them up and no one has had time to look back since then. Finally, released in 2011, War of Angels yielded a handful of hit singles and put the band firmly on the heavy rock map. They followed this up with the even more successful, Onyx album in 2013, which again filled the radio airwaves with multiple hit singles. This summer as the band embarks on a new tour, the band is ready to unleash its fifth overall studio album, the appropriately titled, Up. The first single “Footsteps” is already blowing up Active Rock radio, and a second song, “In Disarray” is following suit.
Pop Evil came together in 2001 when vocalist Leigh Kakaty connected with guitarist Dave Grahs. Over the course of the last decade, bassist Matt Dirito, drummer Chachi Riot, and guitarist Nick Fuelling have also found a home in the Pop Evil family. With Up, the quintet is further solidifying its signature sound, and proving that they are neither an overnight success or a flash in the proverbial pan. Up is scheduled for an August 21 release.
Akron, Ohio’s Red Sun Rising will release its debut album, Polyester Zeal on August 7 on Razor & Tie Records. The band, which draws its influences from rock bands of the 70s and 90s, is already making a statement for itself with the record’s first single. “The Otherside”, which frontman Mike Protich offers gives a bit of a nod to Alice in Chains sound wise. Red Sun Rising is Protich (vocals/guitar), Ryan Williams (guitar), Tyler Valendza (guitar), Ricky Miller (bass/vocals), and Pat Gerasia (drums). The band came together in 2012 and is quickly becoming an Active Rock/Alternative music force. Red Sun Rising is perhaps best known for its live performances and has spent the last 18 months supporting bands including Pop Evil, Seether, Sevendust, Shinedown, Chevelle, and Nothing More.
Cheyenne, Wyoming’s First Decree was started by Dane DeMar and Maurice in 2011. They began writing and brought on Dane DeMar’s brother Zach E. Lee to play drums and began playing shows right away. In 2012 they brought in their other brother Isaac Falco and recorded their debut EP. After playing many shows regionally and touring the Midwest, First Decree headed to the studio with Joel Wanasek to record their full length album Set in Stone in August of 2013.
Local favorites, Gypsy Saints will kick off the event, showcasing their retooled line-up and sound. Formed in 2011, the band consists of members from several previously successful regional bands including guitarist Ken Mansfield, drummer Marlon Roubideaux, keyboardist Phillip Sumpter, and bassist Brian Butler. The band will unveil their new frontman, Mr. Y, this weekend.
