DOVER-FOXCROFT— Eli Olsen went hitless in his first three plate appearances on Saturday afternoon. Olsen got two hits and three RBI in his final two at bats, including the game winning walk off hit to lift the Foxcroft Ponies to an 8-7 victory over Presque Isle in game one of a double header.
The Ponies trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Dylan Huff hit a double with one out to start a rally. Olsen hit a single to score Huff and Billy Brock. Foxcroft added two more runs to take a 7-5 lead , thanks to a Wildcats error and a run scoring single from Brooks Law.
Presque Isle evened the score in the top of the seventh inning. Ben Buckley started the inning with a single, Sam Gray and Kyle Rider each drew a walk, Nick Bartlett followed with a two run single.
The game looked like it may go to extra innings. With two outs, number nine hitter Brock came to the plate and ripped a triple, Chandler Rockwell was intentionally walked, that set up the Olsen dramatics. With the count 1-0, Olsen hit a single that scored Brock and gave the Ponies the game one victory.
Church earned the victory on the mound for the Ponies. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Olsen reached base in all four plate appearances in game one. Olsen had three hits, including a double and two RBI. Nick Decker recorded two hits for the Ponies. Andrew Paterson took the loss for the Wildcats. He pitched a complete game, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 12 hits.
Foxcroft coach Mark Chevalier said, “it was a wild game with an exciting finish, and it was great to see Billy and Eli deliver big hits in the clutch.”
Buckley pitched a complete game to lift Presque Isle to a 6-3 game two victory. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out six.
The Wildcats trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth inning. They evened the score when Jake Carter put down a bunt that scored Brad Guerrette. Presque Isle took the lead when they scored two runs on a Ponies error. They scored their sixth run on a wild pitch.
Buckley worked around two base runners in both the fifth and sixth innings. He also worked around an error in the seventh inning.
Chevalier said, “it was disappointing to not close out the day with a win, but we definitely showed some heart in the opener.”
Huff went 2-2 with two doubles and two RBI in game two for the Ponies. Huff had three doubles in the two games.
Chevalier said, “Dylan (Huff) continues to show growth at the plate and has become a very productive player for us.”
Patterson had three hits on the day for the Wildcats, including two in game two. Presque Isle (6-6) is scheduled to play at Fort Kent on Wednesday.
Decker took the loss in game two for the Ponies. Decker allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks, he struck out eight in 5.1 innings. Rockwell had three hits on the day. Foxcroft (8-4) is scheduled to play at Dexter on Tuesday afternoon.
