Let’s face it, family reunions are filled of outdoor activities but the sun’s ultraviolet rays cam damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes. How do we play it safe outdoors?
“As a dermatologist and mom of three very active children, I know how important it is to get outside and spend time with your family in the summer. Each summer my extended family gets together and that’s why I love the Great Big Family Reunion initiative – but I always tell my family and my patients that it’s important to be safe when you’re in the sun,” said Dr. Julie Karen
“Everyone use one ounce ( 2 TBS ) of sunscreen from head to toe and use a broad spectrum sun screen that offers with UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of at least 30 apply every two hours or after swimming or perspiring.”
If you think you can ditch the sunscreen because it is cloudy or overcast day, you may want to rethink using your sunscreen. As Dr. Karen explained cloudy and overcast days are not harmful but the same but the same harmful rays that cause sunburn and skin cancer are present and penetrate even through clouds depending on the conditions you may want to pick up a particular sunscreen
