Responding to news that Dr. Walter Palmer, the Minnesota dentist accused of killing Cecil the Lion, former CNN talking head Piers Morgan suggested that Palmer and others like him be hunted down, skinned alive, beheaded and mounted on a wall, Twitchy reported Wednesday, citing Morgan’s viral op-ed at the UK Daily Mail. The Twitchy staff responded by describing his grisly call as “ISIS-like bloodlust.”
“If convicted,” Morgan wrote, “Dr Palmer now faces a prison sentence, but captivity seems way too good for him.” Instead, Morgan said he would “like to introduce a new sport – Big Human Hunting.”
“I will sell tickets for $50,000 to anyone who wants to come with me and track down fat, greedy, selfish, murderous businessmen like Dr Palmer in their natural habit,” he said. “We’d lure him out with bait – in his case I suggest the fresh blood of one of his victims would be very effective as it seems to turn him on so much – and once lured, we would all take a bow and fire a few arrows into his limbs to render him incapable of movement.” Morgan was just getting warmed up.
“Then we’d calmly walk over, skin him alive, cut his head from his neck, and took a bunch of photos of us all grinning inanely at his quivering flesh,” he added. “This may sound harsh, but if you ask Dr Palmer, it’s really not.” Morgan’s Twitter promotion also prompted comparisons to ISIS. Morgan, however, was nowhere close to finished.
“Once we’d finished our jubilant paparazzi session, we would then take Dr Palmer’s head and skin and have them framed for our office walls,” he added. “I’d even keep his teeth, so we could forever see his ‘dazzling smile’.”
“Now shared 40k times, my column on Cecil the Lion slayer Dr Walter Palmer,” he tweeted. “Read, get angry, share,” he added, including a link to his article and a picture of Dr. Walker’s head mounted like a trophy.
“Channeling your inner ISIS terrorist?” one person asked. “Seriously?” The same Twitter critic added: “Offering a bounty for torture/murder is a crime. Hope no one does it.”
“So your way of opposing blood sports is by wanting to hunt and mount a human,” another person said. “Awful what Dentist did. Worse is your threat to kill him,” added one Twitter user.
Nevertheless, Morgan had a number of supporters. “Well said @piersmorgan lots of respect for this,” one person said. “Check out the mounting. Spot on, Piers,” another person added.
“Wow,” the Twitchy staff said. “Where’s Twitter support on this? Nobody gets suspended over these tweets?” According to Twitter’s rules, tweets calling for violence against specific people are forbidden. That rule, however, is often overlooked, as we have reported many times over the last five years.
Morgan is perhaps best known in the U.S. as a rabid opponent of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, prompting Twitchy to explain why the amendment is needed. “As for Piers, the next time he asks why Americans need guns, the answer is simple: to protect ourselves from British journalists,” Twitchy said in conclusion.
Many on the left, including a number of Hollywood celebrities, have reacted angrily to news of the lion’s death. So much so, Newsbusters said, that network news outlets have given more coverage to Cecil in one day than they have to the Planned Parenthood videos in two weeks.
“The three broadcast networks, ABC, NBC and CBS censored the third video released Tuesday by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of harvesting aborted baby parts — censored it at Planned Parenthood’s urging,” Katie Yoder said. “But the news shows did find more than 14 minutes for a more important story: the ‘outrage’ over the shooting of Cecil, a famed African lion, by an American dentist.”
