America was devastated by the death of unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin in 2012 and once again, his killer, who was acquitted of all charges, is back in the spotlight. Dr. Drew on Call covered this story on September 29th and reported that this horrific exploitation only added insult to injury to the grieving family. Twitter removed the photo as soon as it was reported but by then it had gotten thousands of views as well as horrific comments supporting the young boy’s death. See attached video by New York Daily News.
When the Twitter account was questioned for authenticity, Huffington Post reported the following “Zimmerman’s brother, Robert, confirmed to The Huffington Post that George Zimmerman’s account, @TherealGeorgeZ, is authentic.”
This is just the most recent of Zimmerman’s alleged “bad boy” behavior since the trial as he was also arrested for several assaults against women and road rage in which he brandished a gun at a fellow driver and shot at him through his windshield. He was accused of domestic violence against his former wife as well as a woman he was dating in 2013. His wife stated that Zimmerman had beaten her and his ex-girlfriend stated that he had beaten her and threatened her with a gun to her face. He was later arrested for aggravated assault when he hurled a wine bottle at yet another girlfriend. This man appears to be made of Teflon as the assault charges were dismissed but his last road rage case has yet to go to trial.
His Twitter page, proudly displays a confederate flag, which was recently banned from South Carolina as its official symbol due to its implication of slavery support. Because of his seemingly racist views and alleged violent behavior since the trial many question whether Zimmerman simply got away with cold blooded murder. Zimmerman and his supporters refute this accusation stating that the flag has “nothing to do with racism” but is a symbol of Southern pride and history.
In addition to Zimmerman’s actions, this incident is not even the first time his Twitter account has made headlines. Just last month, he tweeted that our nation’s president is “an ignorant baboon”. As much as the tabloids like controversy, we can only hope that this is the last time we see or hear of George Zimmerman in the press and close his platform for hatred and abominable behavior.
