If the New England Patriots are to remain undefeated following their Week 12 matchup against the Denver Broncos, Tom Brady and company will have to do it without another one of their offensive weapons. As first reported by WBZ TV’s Steve Burton, wide receiver Danny Amendola will not make the flight to Denver on Saturday.
Amendola was first listed as questionable after suffering a knee sprain in Monday night’s victory over the Buffalo Bills. The fact that it was just a sprain was good news for the Patriots, but leaves the team even thinner at the wide receiver position. New England enters this week already without top receiver Julian Edelman (broken foot) and Aaron Dobson, who the team placed on season-ending IR earlier this week.
With Amendola out, receivers Brandon LaFell, Keshawn Martin, and Chris Harper will have to pick up the slack. Martin is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, but it appears that Amendola’s absence will force him into action. The shortage at receiver will also place more of the offensive load on the shoulders of tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Running backs James White and Brandon Bolden may also play bigger roles in the passing attack out of the backfield. White, a fourth-round pick in 2014, scored a touchdown on a pass reception in Week 11. He should see more balls thrown his way on Sunday night, especially with the pass rush of the Broncos. With a suspect offensive line, Brady will be looking for a quick outlet with the expected pressure.
