The pastor’s wife who was killed in a home invasion had just talked to a neighbor about the rash of home burglaries in the area. It appears that Amanda Blackburn, who was the pregnant wife of Pastor Davey Blackburn, became a fatal victim of one of these home invasions, or a burglary that had gone very wrong.
Pastor Davey Blackburn returned home Tuesday morning to find his wife shot in the head along with obvious signs of a home invasion. While he found his wife, 28-year-old Amanda, wounded and unconscious, their 1-year-old son was unharmed. The child was upstairs still in his crib.
According to CNN News on November 13, Amanda was “taken to Indiana University Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.” Indianapolis Police Commander Dawn Snyder told a CNN affiliate, “I know that we’re going to find the people responsible for this and they will be held accountable.”
Police started a massive manhunt for the suspect or suspects who did this heinous crime. Images taken from surveillance cameras in various locations in the area show a man acting conspicuous and police believe he is the suspect they are looking for. The man on the video was obviously trying to hide his face with his hoodie, police report.
According to Fox News on November 13, police will be releasing a picture of this suspect soon. During a news conference on Friday Indianapolis Police Chief Richard Hite called the killing of the young mother, “a heinous murder.” Major Eric Hench had a warning for the suspect, “You left behind evidence… we will find you, and we will not stop until we get you.”
During the news conference police said there could be multiple suspects in the burglaries that have been occurring in the area. Hite claims that this is not a typical home invasion, as there was no forced entry into the Blackburn’s home.
A house a few doors down from the Blackburn’s house was burglarized that same day and police believe the suspect saw the pastor leaving the house that morning and headed over to their home. The pastor was cleared from being a suspect early on in the investigation by the same surveillance cameras that captured images of the suspect.
The cameras captured images of the Pastor leaving for the gym then returning back home around 8:30 a.m., which is the time that this man walked into his home to find his life had changed forever. This is when the Pastor found his pregnant wife lying unconscious on the floor. She was rushed to the hospital, but died shortly after she arrived.
