With the new Peanuts film getting ready to hit theaters what better time to revisit the old specials that have come before it. Now Paramount is bringing Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!!) to DVD for the first time ever.
In the special Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty and Marcie are chosen as exchange students, destined to spend two weeks in France. Of course, Snoopy and Woodstock join the French odyssey, which turns out to be a combination of mystery, intrigue, and romance coupled with the usual misadventures that seem to follow Charlie Brown wherever he goes! This special is formatted pretty much like most every other Charlie Brown special which is what makes them all work so well. When going into these shows you know what you are going to get and they try not to veer to far from the norm. This time around they added some mystery and a bit of darkness with the thunderstorms and shiftiness of some of the characters, but made sure to never go to far outside of what Charlie Brown and the Peanuts are supposed to be. The animation is great as always and gives you that same vibe of all the ones that came before it all the way back to the 60s while still feeling fresh and new.
The Peanuts are a timeless comic that continues to stay relevant even today. These specials are not only entertaining, but feature messages that are still just as important today as they were at the time of their release. In addition to this film this release also includes the new featurette Travels with Charlie Brown: The Making of Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown. This is a must have for any fan of Charlie Brown and the gang so be sure to grab your copy Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!!) when it hits DVD on October 6th from Paramount Home Entertainment.
