Dale Katechis, founder of Oskar Blues Brewery ((Longmont, Colorado & Brevard, North Carolina) recently invited four Alabama breweries to Brevard, North Carolina to brew Hoptub Bath Machine, a collaboration beer for The Hangout Oyster Cook-Off and Craft Beer Weekend and to bring attention to Alabama’s continuously growing craft beer scene.
Some of you who follow our local breweries on social media may have gotten a little preview to this news earlier this month, but the announcement was made official yesterday that Cahaba Brewing Co. (Birmingham), Fairhope Brewing Company (Fairhope), Good People Brewing Company (Birmingham) and Straight to Ale (Huntsville) made the trip up to North Carolina in early September to brew Hoptub Bath Machine in collaboration with Oskar Blues Brewery. The name of this offering is a nod to the first beer that Dale Katechis of Oskar Blues brewed in a bathtub during his time studying at Auburn University. Hoptub Bath Machine is described as a “light and crisp brew, which features bright flavors of pear and lemon, with green peppercorns adding a depth of flavor and subtle spiciness.” This collaboration is not only just a means of celebrating Alabama’s amazing craft beer culture, but it will also be the featured brew for the 8th annual Hangout Oyster Cook-Off and Craft Beer Weekend at The Hangout in Gulf Shores that takes place on November 6-7, 2015 (click here more information on that event).
“It’s great to dig in with the crew that is driving the craft beer scene back home in Alabama,” said Dale Katechis, soul founder of Oskar Blues Brewery.
Hoptub Bath Machine will have incredibly limited availability in six-packs of 12 oz. cans. You will be able to track this one down in select Alabama markets and along the Florida panhandle in October just before the Hangout Oyster Cook-Off and Craft Beer Weekend (full list of locations to find the cans available below). Hoptub Bath Machine will of course also be available at the Hangout Oyster Cook-Off and Craft Beer Weekend along with 60 other offerings from Alabama, regional, and national breweries. If you spot these cans on shelves locally, make sure to grab your sixer because these will disappear with a quickness. Happy hunting out there, and make sure to spread the love to your craft beer loving friends if you are lucky enough to land some Hoptub Bath Machine later this month. Prost!
