On August 20, Attic Door’s Project Lead, Ryan HoltKamp, announced that he reached out to Robert Hirschboeck about resuming his role in the upcoming game “The 13th Doll,” “We’ve reached out to Robert Hirschboeck to reprise his role as Henry Stauf! Still too early to confirm it, but so far things look very optimistic.” It’s been 20 years since Hirschboeck last played the part in the 7th Guest’s sequel “The 11th Hour” with Stauf descending into hell.
Hirschboeck not only donated money for Attic Door’s Kickstarter campaign (The 13th Doll Kickstarter Campaign) but also sent a message to all Kickstarter supporters. The message was in the character of Stauf. In the message, Stauf thanked his fans; supporters and Holtkamp for bringing him back from the dead, but assured them he had vengeance on his mind.
Hirschlboeck played the demonic toymaker, Henry Stauf found in the classic computer games: “The 7th Guest,” The 11th Hour,” and now “The 13th Doll.” “In “The 7th Guest,” Stauf is a drifter who resorts to killing people for money. Then he gets a vision from beyond to build toys and becomes rich. He then builds a mansion, invites six guests and promises the first to solve all his puzzles will get their deepest desires fulfilled. An uninvited 7th Guest also sneaks into join the festivities. However, as the game progresses, the guests fall victim to the forces of the house and survival becomes key.
The second game, “The 11th Hour” takes place 60 years later. Fictional news show, “Case Unsolved,” reporter Carl Denning searches for his producer and lover, Robin Morales who goes missing. The Search leads Denning to Stauf’s mansion. As Denning solves puzzles and riddles in the mansion, Denning sees video clips that reveal more about the events leading up to Morales’ disappearance. Denning’s mission is to rescue Morales.
“The 13th Doll” will take place in between “The 7th Guest” and “The 11th Hour.” In this game, gamers fast forward ten years after the first one, where the sole survivor, Tad, is in an insane asylum, tormented by the memories of that traumatic night ten years ago. Tad eventually meets a doctor who allows him to go to Stauf Mansion to face his fears, but Tad has a different idea; defeating Stauf once and for all.
“The 7th Guest” and “The 11th Hour” was designed by Rob Landeros of Trilobyte Games. “The 13th Doll” is currently being designed by Attic Door Productions, under the leadership of Project Lead Ryan HoltKamp.
Trilobyte gave Attic Door the license to sell “The 13th Doll” commercially, so long as they could raise the money on their own. Attic Door has exceeded their $40,000 Kickstarter goal and will be working on their stretch goals with four days remaining. These goals include: a Playstation 4 version of the game, an Xbox One Version, a Wii U version and a release party in Chicago. Trilobyte Games previously launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2013 to raise money to create “The 7th Guest 3” and Hirschboeck reprised the role of Stauf to promote the Kickstarter project (The 7th Guest 3’s Kickstarter Project). Unfortunately, Trilobyte Games fell short of their goal. Now that Kickstarter is behind Attic Door, they will be moving forward with “The 13th Doll.” Now, one of the most important steps will be to get Robert Hirschboeck to commit to reprising the role of Henry Stauf for the fan based game.
