Thousands of One Direction fans were out in force for the group’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” mini-concert in Los Angeles on Nov. 19, 2015. The attendance was so large that part of Hollywood Boulevard had to be shut down for the show, which was televised in the U.S. on ABC. One Direction’s previous televised mini-concerts (such as on “Today” or “Good Morning America”) in years past were free, but the tickets for One Direction’s “Jimmy Kimmel” concert were sold as part of a promotional package for One Direction’s fifth album, Made in the A.M., which was released on Nov. 13, 2015. One Direction did the same thing for the group’s performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Nov. 18, 2015.
According to Billboard, Made in the A.M. is expected to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, behind Justin Bieber’s Purpose, which was released on the same day. It will be the first One Direction album to not debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. However, One Direction still holds the record for being the only U.K. act to have its first four albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Made in the A.M. is One Direction’s first album since original member Zayn Malik left the group in March 2015. Reviews for the album have been mostly positive, with many critics saying that it is One Direction’s best album. The group’s four remaining members are Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.
At the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” concert, One Direction performed “Perfect,” “History,” “Drag Me Down,” “Love You Goodbye” and “Story of My Life.” It’s one of the few times that One Direction is performing songs from Made in the A.M. live in 2015. One Direction has announced that the group will not be touring for Made in the A.M. and will go on hiatus in March 2016.
On Nov. 22, 2015, One Direction will also perform “Perfect” on the American Music Awards in Los Angeles. The group is up for two prizes at the show: Artist of the Year and Favorite Duo Group – Rock/Pop. One Direction was formed in 2010 on “The X Factor” U.K. when Simon Cowell and other decision makers put together a group consisting of singers who originally auditioned for the show as solo contestants. One Direction has since become the world’s best-selling act to emerge from “The X Factor.”
