Isaac: “Let me tell you about this place. It’s cold, there’s no running water, and things are always trying to kill you.”
“Operation Mongoose” is the May 10 two hour season finale of “Once Upon a Time.” This article contains spoilers —every article has a price. Be sure you check out the slideshow for more quotes from the episode. “Once Upon a Time” will be back for season five this fall on ABC.
Basically a villain got their happy ending from stealing the lives of a hero. Wow, okay, that wasn’t really original. Why couldn’t the villain still get everything he or she wanted, but still be evil? It would have been much more interesting that way. Cruella’s happy ending being killing people was interesting and surprising. Most of them come from Henry reacting to everything and trying to get everyone to listen to him.
Instead, the first half of the finale is basically reliving stories we are already familiar with, but with the hero and villain roles reversed. It would have been more fun if the stories were drastically different. There were some little things that had changed – Snow being in love with James who died, and so she stole Charming’s heart as a replacement and Regina and Robin being competitors. There are little moments of cuteness.
Emma, thankfully, remembered everything. It would have been a little difficult for Henry to do everything all by his lonesome, but he probably would have managed. He took out Blackbeard all by himself! Do you think Henry could have accomplished everything without Emma’s help?
Alright, cowardly, allergic to rum Killian Jones was all sorts of adorable. He fell for Emma as soon as she stumbled out of the tower. Killian felt their connection, and he took Emma and Henry’s word on this alternate reality and sacrificed himself. For all he know, they could’ve been crazy people, and so he just died for nothing. However, he had more trust in Emma and what he felt for her.
His death and Regina’s were absolutely heartbreaking. It was pretty obvious that it wasn’t going to be permanent, especially once Regina was mortally wounded, but it still was heartbreaking to see. Regina was the savior in the book, which was curious. Her breaking up Robin’s wedding was the only thing that could have broken the “curse” of Isaac’s fiction.
This was a nice touch, and even though Regina failed in that respect, somehow Henry became the author. It would have been great to learn why Henry was chosen, and why it was that moment that the pen spoke to him. As far as author’s go, Henry is a pretty good choice.
He was tempted to fix the past by bringing back Neal, but he broke the pen. Does this mean there can never be an author after Henry? It seems that way, but the ramifications aren’t really clear. Henry having random author duties next season could be really interesting, and it would give Henry something to do. The times when Henry is the most useful on the show is when he is getting people to believe.
When Emma saw Killian die, she regretted never telling him how she felt out of fear. Then why did she not say it whenever they were reunited? We had great character development, and then it all went away when Emma and Killian were safe and sound. This just didn’t make any sense.
Belle telling Rumple that he could have had everything in Isaac’s fictitious world was perfection because it is true. Villains just don’t seem to be able to understand that they can be happy, if they stop sabotaging other people’s happiness or their own. Belle should give talks to villains everywhere. Do you think Rumple can be saved?
The Apprentice extracted the darkness from Rumple’s heart, but it didn’t want to stay inside the hat. Instead, it needs a person to inhabit, and Regina was chosen. After finally helping Regina get her happy ending, Emma wasn’t going to let it be taken away from her.
Emma sacrificed herself for Regina. This was such a fantastic character moment, and shows how aware Emma is at how hard it was for Regina to finally be happy. Emma decided to risk her life because she trusts her family and friends to save her. This was amazing considering how upset Emma was recently with how her parents lied and acted like villains. In the end, Emma chose Regina’s happiness over her own safety. Are you excited for next season?
