President Barack Obama is having a ball these days, this time as an observer of the 2016 election, and in particular, the GOP race to the White House. Obama noted the latest controversy surrounding the last Republican debate, in which the Republican National Committee (RNC), Republican candidates and many conservative pundits are crying foul against the CNBC moderators for asking questions that elicited poor responses from the GOP candidates, said NBC News. On Monday evening, on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City, Obama launched a no-holds barred attack on the Republican field of presidential candidates – and reduced a Broadway theater packed with Democratic donors to fits of laughter with his barbs, according to the Daily Mail.
Obama mocked the Republican presidential candidates who’d called him weak on Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Obama poked fun at what happened at the last GOP debate, reported Yahoo News. “Every one of these candidates says, ‘Obama’s weak, Putin’s kicking sand in his face. When I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out,'” Obama said during a democratic fundraiser in New York City.
“And then it turns out, they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators,” he said. “If you can’t handle those guys, I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you,” Obama told the crowd of Democratic donors.
The 2016 Republican presidential candidates seem to “occupy a different reality,” Obama said. He pointed out, “According to them, everything was really good in 2008, when we were going through the worst economic crisis in our lifetimes,” Obama said. “This, apparently, was the golden age that I messed up.”
“And they’re so glum,” Obama added, barely containing his feelings about the GOP cast of characters seeking his job. “They’re really so frustrated.”
The White House press corps reported other comments:
On climate change: ‘All 99 of those doctors got together – with Obama – to try to prevent me from having bacon and doughnuts. It’d be funny – except this is about climate change. This was an analogy.’
On the musical Hamilton: ‘Michelle and I love this show. It also happens to be the only thing Dick Cheney and I agree on.’
On Obama’s running for a third term: “I explain A, it’s unconstitutional. George Washington set a good example. And B, Michelle would not permit it. And C, this has never been about me … I did not say ‘yes I can.’ I said ‘yes we can.'”
