Pope Francis I has been accused of being a communist because he has criticized the greed and indifference of people that follow capitalism as their religion. Pope Francis is a loving Jesuit priest that actually follows the key teaching of Jesus. The King James Version of the Bible defines how Pope Francis lives his life in Matthew 22.
“36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Karl Marx made a statement that is considered the foundation of communism. Marx and Friedrich Engels authored The Communist Manifesto in 1848 based upon Marx’s statement.
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”.
The fatal flaw of communism is that it depended upon the Golden Rule. The fatal flaw of capitalism can also be defined.
“I got mine, and you getting yours is not my problem.”
We have become so accepting of being treated as tools of capitalism that we have forgotten that we are worthy human beings. The Declaration of Independence says that the US was founded to provide the rights for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Large companies that pay workers minimum wage or less, recommend that workers go on public assistance to get insurance, and move factories offshore to meet short-term profit targets are not meeting the goals upon which the nation was founded. The greed and indifference of capitalism has become a global issue, and the invasion of Europe by desperate immigrants fleeing from war and poverty falls directly upon the US’ defense contractors and the indifference of the industrialized nations to solve problems of those in the Middle East, Africa and around the world.
Don’t call Pope Francis a communist. Communism no longer exists. Communism failed because human beings cannot live up to the Golden Rule. The disintegration of communism began on Nov. 9, 1989 when the leaders in East Berlin opened the gates of the Berlin Wall. Cuba, North Korea and China carry the illusion of being communistic states, but the structure of their governments no longer follows the tenants set down by the USSR. Private ownership is being restored. Businesses are becoming profit oriented. Communism has become a capitalistic enterprise, and it is inheriting the indifference of capitalism as it retreats from communist principles.
Pope Francis is a caring human being focused on helping people to escape from poverty and war. So long as we accept that war is an acceptable approach to solving global problems, and governments put power ahead of the good of the people, we will continue senseless wars and suffer along with those attempting to flee their fates of starvation and death. Let us pray that Pope Francis has a long and productive life. He is an example of a human being that is committed to making the world a better place. That doesn’t make him a communist, or a socialist, or anything else besides a caring person using his power for the greater good.
