Another week has drawn to a close in Atlanta making it time to recap all that the gluten-free shopping and dining scene has to offer. This week’s contenders include, restaurant and shopping happenings, restaurants openings, and more.
Canyon Bakehouse’s line of breads are now available nationwide at Publix grocery stores. Use Canyon’s store finder to locate a store and download a dollar off coupon.
Foundation Social Eatery in Roswell marks gluten-free options on their main menu with a ‘GF’ and trains their front and back of the house staff to prepare them safely by taking cross contact into consideration. All of the dishes are broken down by ingredients making it easy for wait staff to identify how dishes not marked ‘GF’ can be modified. Every Friday and Saturday night the menu features specially prepared dishes, like poached lobster on asparagus and tarragon puree with pearled onions, mushrooms, and fingerling potatoes.
Atlanta-based Marlow’s Tavern plans to open their next location in Brookhaven. The 3,400 square foot restaurant would occupy suite 301 of Brookleigh Market on Johnson Ferry Road in Brookhaven. Other new Atlanta area Marlow’s are expected to open in Roswell on West Crossville Road in October, and on Shallowford Road in Marietta next June. Thanks ToneToAtlanta for the information.
Midtown Restaurant Week (MRW) starts Saturday, September 5 and runs through Sunday, September 13. There are more than 40 participating restaurants ready to celebrate MRW’s 10th anniversary by offering $15, $25, $35 prix fixe brunch, lunch and/or dinner menus.
Oak Steakhouse in Avalon offers a number of gluten-free specialty options, such as: Udi’s Gluten Free dinner rolls and burger buns, Gillian’s brown rice pasta for mac & cheese, and they have a dedicated fryer in the back for preparing French fries. The restaurant just launched Burger Monday! Every Monday night, they will offer an eight ounce Oak burger (blend of cab New York strip, filet mignon, and brisket topped with grilled Vidalia onions, bibb lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar, and housemade pickle chips) and fries along with a choice of beer (gluten free or cider) or bourbon for $12. Peeps are coming to a store near you all dressed up in festive fall flavors. Pumpkin Spice Peeps dipped in white fudge are real and coming soon. Other new creations include caramel apple and candy corn-flavored marshmallow chicks and ‘toppers’ for baked goods that are shaped like ghosts and jack-o-lanterns. Find the locally just about everywhere from grocery stores to drug stores and everywhere in between.
Popchips has introduced Star Wars™ and Frozen-themed sea salt and barbecue multipacks to their line of chips. The new character-driven packs are available now in stores nationwide through December 31, 2015, or while supplies last. The Frozen and Star Wars multipack feature classic characters and consist of six count single serve options featuring 12 different collectible designs.
Seven Sisters Scones is expanding into a brick and mortar location this fall where they will offer sweet and savory gluten-free scones (two or three flavors), tea, organic juices, and coffee. This is not a dedicated gluten-free business, rather their primary focus is on wheat-based goods. They do take precautions to prevent cross contact with gluten, but it is important to note that gluten-free scones are made in a shared environment. Until they are officially open, their scones can be purchased at farmers markets in Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta, Johns Creek, Lilburn, and Piedmont Park.
Happy almost September!
