“Northpole: Open for Christmas” is an original Hallmark movie that premiered on Hallmark Channel on Nov. 21, 2015, as part of Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas” holiday programming. The magical movie stars Lori Loughlin, Bailee Madison and Dermot Mulroney.
Mackenzie (Loughlin) is a successful real estate appraiser who specializes in talking clients out of possessions, in spite of any sentimental attachments. She tells her boss she plans to work through the holidays, but her plans are changed when she learns that she has inherited her Aunt Grace’s Vermont Inn.
Mackenzie spent many happy seasons with her aunt but has not visited since she was eight, so she is surprised at the inheritance. She has been moving every year to advance her career and does not want to get attached to the inn, so she decides to visit and make arrangements to sell.
Meanwhile, in the Northpole, Clementine (Madison) the elf is being given a special mission by Santa Claus (Donovan Scott). It turns out that the inn is a magical power station that is necessary for his Christmas Eve sleigh ride around the world. Mackenzie’s lack of Christmas spirit has taken the magic out of Northern Lights Inn and could ruin Christmas for everyone. Clementine is to take her reindeer powered sleigh to Vermont to help Mackenzie find her Christmas spirit.
Mackenzie arrives in the scenic town and visits the real estate office, where she meets Property Brothers types; Ian (Mulroney) and Harris Hanover. Ian is a ruggedly handsome handyman who volunteers to help repair the inn. Harris is the Realtor who calls the inn a money pit that should be sold and torn down for development.
She then goes to the inn, staffed by Wilson and Betty (Marcia Bennett). They are disappointed to learn of her plans to sell the inn but are hospitable. Clementine arrives and quickly befriends Mackenzie. The next day, Ian brings his young daughter Jenny, who charms everyone.
Mackenzie’s feelings are torn, as she begins to enjoy the inn and small town life. Her boss calls and tells her she has been chosen for a dream job in London and that she is to be on a plane by Christmas.
Clementine reveals her identity and takes Mackenzie to the magical Northpole. She remembers that her Aunt Grace had taken her on the same trip when she was eight. Her father thought her imagination was running away with her and he stopped letting her visit her beloved aunt.
Mackenzie is under a deadline to take the London job. A buyer makes an offer on the inn. Mackenzie is free to go, but is falling love with the magical inn and with Ian.
This is the second “Northpole” movie on Hallmark Channel. “Northpole,” with Robert Wagner and Jill Ireland as Santa and Mrs. Claus, premiered in 2014. Bailee Madison reprises her role as Clementine, the effervescent elf.
