Pretty Little Liar’s sixth season airs in exactly one week (pause for silent screaming). Since the explosive season finale fans have been trolling websites looking for spoilers and living on Netflix looking for every clue possible to reveal the one question we all want to know the answer to: Who is Charles? One week, everybody. One. Week. In an effort to keep our souls satisfied until then let us turn our focus to yet another part of the show that is oh so amazing; the fashion. Pretty Little Liars has become an inspiration to young women seeking out their own personal style. Each Liar has a distinct personality and represents it through her wardrobe. Whether it’s getting tackled by A or drinking coffees at the brew these girls are always killing the fashion game. They represent how to be fierce and fabulous at the same time. Running from your killer in 6 inch heels? PSA: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
This episode was one of the few where we see the liars forsake personal style to blend in with the crowd. During these “special events” the liars lean more costume-y yet still always manage to make a statement (note Emily’s pinstripe jacket).
The Pawn Shop
The Liars truly bring the “style brings confidence” motto to life in all of the episodes, but especially when they visit the pawn shop. Seeing them in a sketchy area taking a huge risk selling Melissa’s ring, each Liar (especially Aria) invests in a personal outfit choice that gives them a boost to take those next steps (and gives us outfit inspo for our next crazy outing).
When the viewers look at Spencer they know exactly who she is. That is the goal of personal style; tell your story through the clothes you wear. She accomplishes this effortlessly and gives preppy a new name in the process.
The Equestrian Look
Many of Spencer’s outfits have a clear equestrian influence. This one especially is reminiscent with the ruffling and aggressive layering.
Spencer’s Halloween Look
Again leaning more costume-y but still sticking to her true colors. Since this was Halloween Spencer had a chance to have her personality shine through and she did not disappoint. In the episode she dressed up as one of her favorite characters from the 40s with her boyfriend Toby. From the gloves to the fit I would say she nailed it.
Aria’s Polka Dot Look
Aria is a risk taker when it comes to style. She opens the show with a patterned cut-out dress and from that moment on her outfits are always a surprise.
Aria is a lover of all things vintage. Throughout the show we see her make unique pairings that many of us today would never think to go together. She inspires the daredevil in many of us stylistically.
Aria In Red
Although we all know Aria is a lover for all things pattern and color, she is also a lover for all things matchy. She does not object to being color-coordinated and the result is always stunning.
Hanna is the joker. She likes to play around, have fun and she is the fashion guru on the show. Ever since she lost the name “Hefty Hanna” she loves to show off her bod, and we applaud it! If you got it, flaunt it.
Aria loves dresses and we love her in dresses. She loves the babydoll cut which is a vintage staple. It is in desperate need of a comeback. Short of Betsey Johnson I have yet to see it marketed in stores. It is one of the most flattering cuts and the most fun and should be worn by all!
Emily and Hanna B&W
In this flashback episode shot in Black and White the viewers were not the only ones taken for a throwback. The Liars style was taken for a spin as well. Suddenly we see Emily bejeweled and Hanna in a collared blouse but hey, no complaints here. This was another “event” episode and it was nice to see how the Liars adapted.
Spencer’s Maroon Hat
One of my favorite looks on PLL. Aria is not the only one who goes color coordinated; in fact it is a staple of Spencers’ preppy closet. What ties the outfit together is Spencer’s bowler hat; again one of many in the Hastings closet. It takes the look from high school to just over the top enough.
Emily is the jock on the show. She’s the athlete and the “good girl”- for awhile, at least. But it’s nice to see her style evolve. She goes from jean skirts and striped shirts in season 1 to these more edgy varsity jackets and flannels in the latter seasons.
Contrary to Hanna’s character, her style definitely has a “working girl” vibe. She loves peplums, blazers and ambitious prints.
In the black and white throwback episode, Aria stole the show in this striped number. Though some of the girls styles may have been lost in translation, this was straight up Aria’s alley.
Spencer loves all things preppy and this cardigan is no exception. Yet through the seasons and seeing her style evolve she has proven that preppy does not equal frumpy. If Spence has taught us anything, it’s that preppy=chic.
Spencer’s staple closet item is definitely her hats. If only I could see inside I could just imagine what that would look like. And isn’t it oh so fitting as she is the detective in the group?
When Aria makes her entrance at Homecoming as the belle of the ball, the reaction is no surprise. This dress is a showstopper and I am dying to get my hands on it. It screams “Aria” with the shoulder pads and the exaggerated bottom.
This nighttime look for Spencer in the B&W episode did not get the attention it deserved. The silk organza was gorgeous and screamed Spencer. Simple, chic and elegant. Just like her.
