Nifty Nuts has been scooping up nuts for Wichita’s nibblers since 1937.
On a recent road trip, the Food Channel’s Alton Brown crowned Wichita’s Nifty Nuts “a national treasure.”
Jammed at Christmas time, many shoppers are bustling in for fancy mixed nuts. “It’s our best-seller,” said store manager Gordon Rodriguez. “It’s a Christmas tradition here.”
Frankly, Nifty Nuts, a vast 5,000 square feet, is busy year-round. The almonds, pecans, peanuts and cashews are roasted on site in coconut oil and then tossed in a wide range of flavors. Altogether, Nifty Nuts offers 165 different varieties.
The shop also packages hundreds of candies and snacks, from watermelon gummies to pink strawberry pretzels.
Flavors of childhood, no matter your age
Nifty Nuts also specializes in heritage candy, some stretching back to its 1937 founding. Great-grandparents might still like to tear into a Pecan Divinity Roll, Maple Nut Goodies or Moon Pies.
Candy necklaces and Cherry Mash evoke memories, too, as well as Pop Rocks Blue Razz and Cotton Candy Explosion. Angry Birds candy speaks to younger customers noshing their way through Nifty Nuts.
