It’s official! Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have squashed their purported Twitter beef. As E! reports (July 24), during a live interview with “Good Morning America” Friday, Minaj confirms that the misunderstanding is behind them.
Ahead of her Good Morning America’s Summer Series performance, Minaj sat down to chop it up with show host, Lara Spencer. “We’re all good. We spoke for a long time on the phone. We were cracking up laughing. It’s over, ” the “Feelin’ Myself” rapper told Spencer.
This update straight from Minaj’s lips follows reports that Swift called her to verbally apologize first prior to issuing a public online apology. “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki @NICKIMINAJ”, Swift said in a Twitter post Thursday. “That means so much Taylor, thank you. @taylorswift13 ❤❤❤, ” Minaj said in a reply message to Swift.
The mishap began when Minaj took to Twitter to publicly express feelings of being snubbed by MTV following the announcement of this year’s nominees. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj tweeted in what was assumed to be directed towards Swift. Nominated for Video of the Year for her music video “Bad Blood”, Swift replied to Minaj tweeting, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Despite earning three 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations in other categories, Minaj says she can’t help but feel slighted. “‘Anaconda’ had such a huge cultural impact, and on top of that, we broke the Vevo record,” Minaj told Spencer. “This is actually my third time breaking the Vevo record and ‘Anaconda’ therefore should have been nominated, and I do think if it was the pop girls, they would have had many nominations for it. I think I got two for ‘Anaconda,’ for Female and for Hip-Hop, and it should have been for [Video of the Year]. That’s all we were saying, and it is what it is,” Minaj said.
Prior to her “Good Morning America Summer Concert Series” appearance, Minaj also received a public apology from her boyfriend rapper Meek Mill for his recent social media assault on Drake. As TMZ reports, the 28-year-old rapper took to the stage during Nicki Minaj’s Pinkprint Tour stop in Bristow, VA on Wednesday night.
In what appeared to be an attempt to repair Minaj’s longtime political ties with Drake, “I want to give a special apology shout-out to Nicki Minaj for my crazy ass going crazy on Twitter,” Mill said. This acknowledgement of error on Mill’s part comes just a day shy of his Twitter rant in which he claims that fellow hip-hip recording artist, Drake, 28, doesn’t write his own rhymes.
Sending music fans into a frenzy, Mill claims a ghostwriter penned the lyrics for the “Energy” rapper’s guest feature on the track “R.I.C.O.”, on Mill’s 2015 album, “Dreams Worth More Than Money”.While he didn’t quite eat his words about calling Drake a fraud, Mill told the concert attendees on his girlfriend’s “Pinkprint Tour”, “Shout out to Drake. Let him be great in all the motherf***ing lanes he’s great in”.
Meek Mill is billed as one of Nicki Minaj’s opening acts, along with Dej Loaf, Rae Sremmurd and Tinashe. Minaj’s “Pinkprint Tour” in support of her third studio album, “The Pinkprint” is currently on it’s North American run, hitting cities across the U.S. and Canada.
