Nicki Minaj is widely known for her performances as well as her multiple personality disorder. While popular with most of the public there are some concerns about her role-model actions in her music videos that impact impressionable minds. No matter what the public’s view of Minaj is, it won’t stop her from expanding her fame through her own sitcom. There are some concerns however about the material that will be shown on this sitcom.
Recently Sky TV has been in trouble for showing the raunchy Nicki Minaj Only video without properly informing viewers of the adult content in the video. Her song Only depicts Nicki Minaj grinding alongside Chris Brown, Drake and Lil Wayne. Other dancers follow Minaj’s lead while twerking and grinding in the background while wearing close to nothing. Stuff reported on September 29 that Sky TV, the network that owns the rights to MTV in New Zealand have since apologize for the misunderstanding and payed the ordered $1,500 to The Crown.
As for her sitcom, The Atlantic reported on September 29 that Nicki Minaj will not only star in her own sitcom but she will also executive produce it as well. The sitcom will depict Nicki Minaj’s life in the 1990s as she was growing up in Queens. It is unclear how her sitcom will pan out next to ABC Family’s already popular sitcoms such as Pretty Little Liars and The Fosters.
ABC Family has many young viewers which is conerning many parents as they do not want their children exposed to Nicki Minaj’s sitcom if it is anything like her music videos. On the other hand, much of the public believes this will be a great way to show young minds that it doesn’t matter where you came from, as long as you believe in yourself you can do whatever you set your mind to.
On September 29 The Root also reported that the sitcom will show not only Minaj’s upbringing, but the adjustment her family went through while coming to America. The show is said to allow the audience to view the differences between cultures and depict Nicki Minaj in a different light. Her family went through many struggles while coming to America and that’s what the young rapper wants to shine a light on.
While using her multiple personalities, some thought the sitcom was a joke that would appear as a cartoon. However Nicki Minaj has made it very clear that she is serious and passionate about her new project. She is sure this will gain her more understanding as well as being a huge step as her business woman self. There is no final date as to when the sitcom will air but it is currently in the works as we speak.
Many believe that this could either make or break Nicki Minaj as nowadays the public can be tough critics when it comes to new series. There are numerous series that only last a season if even that. But despite the statistics, Minaj is adamant to let the world know of her and her family’s story.
