Jack Beckman couldn’t make it three in a row this past weekend at Pacific Raceways, home of the NHRA Northwest Nationals, but he did cut into Matt Hagan’s lead in the Funny Car class. Check out the top five in all four NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series classes.
In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher (1289) leads his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Antron Brown (1202) by 87 points and long-time rival Larry Dixon (1034) by 255 points. Richie Crampton (969) sits in fourth in points, while Doug Kalitta (944) is fifth.
On the season, with two races remaining in the NHRA’s “regular season,” Brown leads Top Fuel drivers with four wins, while Schumacher and Crampton each have three. Kalitta has two wins so far this season, and J.R. Todd, Shawn Langdon, Spencer Massey and Steve Torrence have one each.
In Funny Car, Hagan (1177) saw his lead cut to just five points by Beckman (1172) after another final round appearance by the 2012 champ. Seattle winner Tommy Johnson Jr. (1063) is 114 points behind his two teammates, while 16-time champ John Force (1025) sits in fourth. Del Worsham (1004) rounds out the top five.
After going winless for 54 races, dating back to 2012, Beckman has collected five Wallys this season, one more than defending Funny Car champ Hagan with four. Johnson Jr., John Force and Ron Capps each have two wins, while Tim Wilkerson has one.
Greg Anderson (1322) continues to lead in Pro Stock, sitting 51 points ahead of defending champ Erica Enders (1271) and 147 ahead of Sonoma and Seattle winner Chris McGaha (1175). Jason Line (1102) is fourth, while Allen Johnson (951) sits in fifth.
Anderson and Enders each have four wins on the season, followed by McGaha, Line and Larry Morgan with two each. Johnson and Rodger Brogdon have one win each.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, which did not run at Seattle, Eddie Krawiec (702) leads Hector Arana Jr. (596) by 106 points, while Krawiec’s teammate Andrew Hines (546) sits in third. Karen Stoffer (468) is fourth, followed by Jim Underdahl (459) in fifth.
Stoffer leads PSM with two wins, while Krawiec, Arana Jr., Hines, Jerry Savoie and Hector Arana Sr. each have one win.
The Countdown to the Championship begins following the U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, and eight drivers have now clinched a spot in the championship playoffs. Schumacher and Brown clinched last weekend in Top Fuel, while their DSR counterpart Hagan is joined by Beckman in Funny Car following Seattle. Enders, Anderson and Line are joined by McGaha in Pro Stock after his second straight win.
