“Weak Gun Laws Are Arming Lone Wolf Terrorists,” Newsweek claimed in a Wednesday paean to removal of rights without due process. Article authors are Chelsea Parsons, Vice President, Guns and Crime Policy for the Center for American Progress, and Ken Sofer, Associate Director for National Security and International Policy at American Progress, who also interned for Dianne Feinstein.
At least we can be assured they bring no bias to their report when they tell us “Suspects on the terrorist watch list tried to buy guns from licensed dealers 2,233 times between 2004 and 2014.”
Still, that’s hardly an original talking point. All the gun-grabbers are parroting it. That’s what they do when they want to scare and manipulate those susceptible to sound bites.
And those suspects aren’t just “homegrown” lone wolves like us domestic “extremists” who believe in dangerous, radical stuff like “shall not be infringed.” It seems Islamists are also on the “progressive” radar, that is, when they’re not importing them and scattering them in secret throughout the Republic.
This gives the monopoly of violence zealots a chance to drag in incidents like the Garland attack at the Draw Muhammad event, and the crazy shrink at Fort Hood, and then use those to demand that other people — who are merely “suspected” of being bad actors — have a fundamental right denied to them via prior restraint. That means without being convicted of so much as jaywalking. Using classified criteria the government won’t tell us. And to spook the herd even more, the antis up the fear factor with some high-level name-dropping.
“Individuals on the consolidated terrorist watch list — including notorious terrorists such as Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri — attempted to purchase guns from licensed dealers,” Parsons and Sofer bemoan.
Really? We should be grateful such “common sense gun safety laws” are in place to render terrorists harmless.
“I had to do a double-take and triple-take when I read that,” Herschel Smith of The Captain’s Journal blog noted. “According to Newsweek, the bearded, robed leader of AQ himself, hopped on an airplane in Pakistan, flew to the U.S., appeared before some worker at a gun shop somewhere in the states, and attempted to go through the NICS.”
Actually, brother, I hate to publicly disagree with you, but I thought I saw this guy the other day having problems determining his ethnicity on a Form 4473, and arguing with the man behind the counter that he did not consider himself to be any of the available choices.
When the system rejected him, he turned pale and took a moment to regain his composure.
“Actually, you’ve been very helpful,” he finally said to the clerk.
“At the next place, you try, Abdul,” he told his companion as they exited the gun store and headed for their car. “If you’re blocked too, we’ll know for sure they’re on to us, and it’ll be time for us both to get out.”
That was the last I saw of them, except I also recall thinking the “Coexist” bumper sticker on their Prius was a nice touch.
