It was a shocker for most people to hear Speaker John Boehner’s announcement Friday that he is resigning. Actually he’s probably moving on before he would have been removed as he’s looked more like a Liberal Democrat than a republican as time moved on. Majority Whip Steve Scalise announced Tuesday September 29, that he’s running for majority leader. The surprising candidate was South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy. Jason Chaffetz, of Utah said, “Trey Gowdy as majority leader would be heaven sent.” Gowdy may be a younger statesman but he’s demonstrated heart, passion and determination as the chairman of House Select Committee on Benghazi.
Gowdy has the heart of a lion and takes a stand for the people like a Representative should. The Tea Party was the main reason the House was taken back by the GOP. Gowdy may be one of the most conservative representatives in Washington. Chaffetz went on to say, “I think that the Republican Conference needs somebody who can unite the body and represent us far and wide and articulate the message.…. Trey Gowdy is the best person.”
Rep. Peter Roskam urged his colleagues not to “launch headfirst into leadership elections.” And others have said they want the time to get a clear sense of the policy positions and strategies of the party’s leadership candidates. However, the establishment machine will probably move fast to replace Boehner with a double as soon as possible instead of going with the voice of youth for a better tomorrow.
