Every wide release film these days requires at least three official trailers and about three TV spots if they are to compete in the market. All TV spots generally pull different bits from the first trailer and remix them. It seems strange, however, that even long form trailers are more and more becoming carbon copies of one another. A good example of this is Ride Along 2, which saw its third official trailer released today courtesy of its distributor, Universal Pictures.
The film proudly boasts that “The Brother-in-Laws are Back,” promising the triumphant return of buddy cop duo James (Ice Cube) and Ben (Kevin Hart). This go round, the pair are on the hunt to chase down a drug kingpin while Hart vainly attempts to juggle work alongside planning his upcoming wedding.
To be fair, all the finer points from the first trailer are all there, with one noted exception. Instead of focusing on their new partner Maya Cruz (Olivia Munn, in a possible temptress role), this time they opted to focus on their other new partner A.J. (Ken Jeong). Jeong plays the role of that cop who sits behind a computer screen in an unmarked van while monitoring the performance of the guys in the field. Jeong typically plays the third wheel in every comedy film now made today, so he seems like an apt fit here.
Ride Along 2 will open in theaters for a wide release on January 15 of next year. For more information about the film, check out its official website. You can also be a friend to its Facebook page and follow it on Twitter. The film stars Hart, Ice Cube, Munn, Jeong and Tika Sumpter.
