Earlier this month we wrote about the opening of Sbraga & Company, a new Jacksonville restaurant from celebrity chef Kevin Sbraga. This awesome trend of new restaurants coming to the Jacksonville area continues with another new restaurant opening: Il Desco, located in Pele’s old location at 2665 Park St. in Riverside. Mark Frisch, who originally opened Pele’s in 2012, is the owner of MAF Restaurant Group. Mark and MAF have teamed up with local Jacksonville group Forking Amazing Restaurants to open Il Desco and he hopes to grow what Pele’s started (Forking Amazing restaurants also owns Ovinte, Bistro Aix, and Cowford Chophouse, which is set to open in summer 2016). Design Cooperative was the architect/designer for the new space and DANIS was in charge of contracting.
The transformation of Pele’s in to Il Desco involved a full reconfiguring of the dining room and transformation of the old private dining room into a semi-private dining room. In addition, they have created a custom wine room with 564 bottles of red wine along with a new cooking line in the kitchen and new tile int he restrooms Il Desco is an Italian restaurant serving “modern” Italian food. “Il Desco” translated from Italian means “the dinner table” and the restaurant takes this literally by providing a 20-person community table made from century-old wood from the Cowford Chophouse where guests can meet and interact. This social atmosphere represents an exciting concept that goes along with the tradition of Italian dining as a social event. As Jax Restaurant Reviews pointed out, there is a lack of great Italian restaurants available to the Jacksonville area. Il Desco aims to fill this void with its new restaurant concept.
Il Desco opened on 11/12/15 and is capable of seating up to 150. The menu features dishes like pasta made-in house, grilled entrees, wood-fired pizzas, and a raw bar with oysters, clams and shrimp. More specifically, Il Desco will serve exciting dishes like a large dish of Short Rib Bolognese, Spaghetti Tacos, Italian Crudo, and a pesto and pasta dish called Orecchiette (pictured).
Il Desco is currently open for business and their hours are as follows:
- Monday-Friday: 11am-4pm
- Saturday-Sunday: 10:30am-4pm
- Sunday-Wednesday: 5pm-10pm
- Thursday-Saturday: 5pm-11pm
- 7 days a week: 3:30pm-6:30pm
- Thursday-Saturday: 11pm-2am
