Bay Area and Northern California golfers have an edge over their compatriots in much of the rest of the country. We have no “handicap season” because the moderate weather which we enjoy enables us to play golf and enjoy other outdoor pursuits year-round. Still, when that damp chill of a Northern California winter sets in, we want warm clothing; and even with our relatively mild wintertime weather, we still yearn for warmer, sunnier climes as the days shorten and the chill Pacific fog rolls in.
Luckily, there are golf apparel manufacturers out there who are looking out for us, and two well-known names in the field have new products that fit the bill.
Imperial Headwear, the official headwear supplier to the victorious 2015 United States Solheim Cup team, has added a line of cold-weather knit hats to their offerings. Imperial’s new Keep Warm Knits come in six colorful styles, with or without the traditional pom-pom on the top. These fleece-lined woven hats are waterproof, with a generous 3-inch cuff, and are sure to keep your head warm and dry on the foggiest Northern California morning.
The new knits are even available in a custom line, with a minimum order of 24 hats, one dozen per style/color combination. There are six cold-weather hat styles to choose from, which can hove your club or course’s name (up to 16 letters) knit into the design. Hats are available with or without pom-pom, with over 70 color options to choose from.
“Imperial’s new knit program is a perfect way for our customers to get into great customized product with very little risk,” said David Shaffer, director of marketing at Imperial Headwear. “At two dozen minimums, you can’t afford not to try this program.”
On the flip side, if you are looking for warm-weather apparel for that wintertime golf getaway, Carnoustie Sportswear is coming out with a new Performance sportswear line that is worth a look.
Well-known for their all-cotton sportswear, the new golf/sport shirts in the Spring 2016 Performance line from Carnoustie feature a micro-poly/spandex blend fabric that combines moisture-wicking properties with stretchability for ease of movement. UV protection rated at 30+ SPF and anti-microbial finishes ensure premium performance in warm weather. This high-performance fabric combines the comfortable drape and silky feel of the finest all-cotton fabrics with the superior performance of the latest high-tech fabric blends.
“Our performance knits have really taken hold since their Spring ’14 debut, and the market reaction has been very strong,” says company CEO Marshall Mancillas. “All performance fabric is not created equal, and we made a considerable effort to fundamentally understand man-made fibers. We knew we had to offer a technical product that was commensurate with our reputation in cotton.”
The new line comes in three distinct color ranges: Classic, which centers on the American colors red, white, and blue – perfect for a Ryder Cup year; Resort, featuring white, black, yellow and daiquiri green shades; and the Desert Collection, which focuses on shades of orchid purple and orange.
