Fellow Disney fans are in for a “gigantic” treat this weekend, as Disney Studios has just announced its latest take on the fairy tale classic, Jack and the Beanstalk. The beloved children’s entertainment company confirmed yesterday morning at the D23 Expo that the new film will be called “Gigantic.” It is set to feature a young boy named Jack who happens to meet an 11-year-old girl, standing proud at 60 feet tall. The Wrap News reported this Friday, August 14, 2015, that the animated film will be a spinoff of the story that many readers may already know and love, with plenty of surprises in store for all.
From beloved fairy tales like “Cinderella” to the more modern “Frozen,” Disney surely knows how to tell a story that pulls at the heartstrings. Their latest endeavor will take young little Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk and bring in a brand new version of the “giant” end of his adventures up in the sky. The talented Nathan Greno, who helmed the popular Disney movie “Tangled,” will be serving as the director behind “Gigantic.”
The project is unfortunately still in its early stages at this point in time, but with the D23 Expo announcement earlier this weekend, we do know some interesting details surrounding this “Gigantic” film. The first photo to be released from the new Disney movie has also been made public, showcasing a cute (yet certainly not little) blonde girl peering nervously at a much smaller Jack climbing up the beanstalk.
In this adaptation of the fairy tale, notes TIME, we have learned that our Jack is situated in Spain sometime in the 1400s. This 15th century is what Greno told audiences at the Disney expo was a time of exploration and an “age of discovery,” which ties in perfectly for our main character’s adventures in the spinoff. In addition to a massive castle in the sky, it seems our curious protagonist will also meet one giant girl along the way.
Who might this girl’s name be? Said to have had her creation encouraged by the unique characters provided to Disney fans in “Frozen,” the giant girl is called Inma, and she apparently believes that the much smaller Jack is a toy. She may only be 11 years old, but she stands dozens of feet high and with a quite curious nature of her own.
“She gets her hands on a grown man Jack, and she thinks he’s a toy,” Greno revealed in a statement to Disney fans at the event. He said that Inma was inspired by a young girl encountered during a previous trip the company took to Spain. This gigantic character will not only be given a starring role in the animated film, but she even will have her own song. The brilliant minds behind the music in “Frozen,” Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, will also be helping to create this classic Jack and the Beanstalk spinoff movie.
In addition to news surrounding “Gigantic,” the Disney Studios company also has a new interesting princess that has excited film fans everywhere. It was recently revealed that a feisty young woman will be appearing on the silver screen in the next couple of years as well. The movie project is called “Moana,” and the titular character is a young woman who lived in the South Pacific area hundreds of years ago. The story will revolve around her brave journey on the sea as her young pet pig, named Pua, tags along for the ride. Are you looking forward to the latest Disney films, including Jack and the Beanstalk’s upcoming appearance in “Gigantic?”
