She’s spunky, sassy, and fun. Kate Ryan may not have the largest following yet, but she is well on her way. The Louisville, Colorado native started her musical journey early. At the age of 6, Ryan would play piano and sing in church. Ever since, music has always been a part of her life. In middle school, she became the lead singer in a rock band, Traffic Jam, and won her town’s ‘American Idol’ Night two years in a row. After a few years, Ryan snagged her first guitar and became just as passionate about that as she is singing and playing the piano. Her career began to take off during her freshmen year, building a solid fanbase on YouTube that attracted interest from record label executives and talent scouts from The Voice.
Now, Kate Ryan is becoming her own. She admits to loving Hannah Montana and listening to the Jonas Brothers, and would love to perform with Carrie Underwood one day. A potential star is what she is and it goes to show on her debut EP, ‘Now Revolution,’ which she recorded with Dean Sans of Lonestar. Still young and new to college life, Kate possesses a huge voice that you can easily define as pop or country. She could go either route and it would suit her perfectly. “I love every genre of music. I can’t think of a genre that I don’t like. I would never pigeonhole myself into one genre,” Ryan states.
When recording her EP, Ryan only had one goal in mind – to influence and empower her listeners. “There are times when we feel very alone in this world. We don’t feel like we have anyone to talk to or relate to and music is a way for me to connect to my friends from all over the world (“fans”, I call them friends) so we all realize that we are never alone. We always have each other. I particularly love the songs “Shy Girl” and “Stronger” on the album because so many people can relate to them. Girls and boys, old and young. It’s so easy to fear what people might think of you, but in reality, every single thing you have to offer is so incredibly special and important. I just want to make positive music.”
When asked if there was a full length coming anytime soon, Ryan says that there is hope for one. Although in college, she wants to pursue music full-time, which seems to already be working in her favor (getting nominated for video of the year for ‘Now Revolution’ on Barebones Entertainment). It’s assured that she’s got talent and we can’t wait to see what else she’ll do in the future. “You can find me on social media through my website kateryan.co, and you can find my music on iTunes. Thank you so much for listening to my music. Stay smiling.”
