- Steph Curry
Steph Curry was born in Akron, Ohio on March 14, 1988. Steph’s father is former NBA player Dell Curry, and even though he was born in Akron, Steph Curry grew up in places like Charlotte, North Carolina, and Toronto, Canada, where his dad played in the NBA.
Named the 2015 NBA MVP, Steph Curry already holds a number of NBA records like most threes in a season and most threes made in a NBA post-season. Barring an injury, Steph Curry is going to make the Basketball Hall of Fame one day.
- LeBron James
LeBron James was born in Akron, Ohio on December 30, 1984. Just 30 years of age, LeBron James has already accomplished a ton in the NBA including winning two NBA Championships and being named NBA Finals MVP for both titles, won four NBA MVPs, won an NBA scoring title, has 39 regular season triple-doubles and 12 in the post-season.
LeBron James also has the fourth highest scoring average in NBA history at 27.36 points per game, he has scored the 20th most points in NBA history at 24,913, and LeBron has also dished out the 26th most assists in NBA history. They will have to create a new wing in the Basketball Hall of Fame for him when LeBron James retires.
- Nate Thurmond
Nate Thurmond was born on July 25, 1941 in Akron, Ohio. Nate Thurmond was a great NBA player and on October 18, 1974, he recorded the first official quadruple-double in NBA history when he had 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, and 12 blocked shots in a game.
Nate Thurmond is also one of only five NBA players to average 15.0 or more rebounds per game for a career, one of only five players to average over 20 rebounds a game for a season, one of only four players to grab over 40 rebounds in a game, and Nate Thurmond holds the NBA record for most rebounds in one quarter with 18. Nate Thurmond was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985.
- Gus Johnson
Gus Johnson was born in Akron, Ohio, on December 13, 1938. Gus Johnson was a great player who was especially noted for his fantastic leaping ability and he was one of the first great slam dunkers in league history (he shattered three NBA backboards in his career).
For his NBA career, Gus Johnson averaged 17.1 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. Gus Johnson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
